The Manager-State & Local Income Taxes is responsible for managing the organization's state and local income tax landscape.

*This position can be hired at either Grade 9 or Grade 10 based off skills and years of experience. Candidate must live within a three-hour radius for occasional travel into AEP Headquarters in Columbus, OH.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Provide technical consulting advice to the commercial operations of the Company while minimizing its overall state & local income tax liability.Provide technical expertise regarding controversial state income tax issues including but not limited to Nexus, Apportionment, Filing options (combined/Separate entity etc.)Drive the state and local income tax compliance efforts, including apportionment, tax return preparation and tax payment processing. Coordinate tax research and develop tax return filing positions in cooperation with AEP Tax Directors and Legal Tax.Manage tax audits for state and local income taxing authorities, independent auditors and AEP Audit Services Department. Consult with AEP Legal Tax Counsel regarding preparation of protests and briefs for the appeal of disputed audit findings.Analyze new legislation and determine its impact on AEP and its subsidiaries. Lead modeling efforts (i.e. apportionment, base) related to the impact of corporate initiatives, legislative proposals, and acquisitions/divestitures on the company's state and local income taxes.Prepare state income tax analysis for Director of Tax Forecasting in the preparation of state & local income tax forecasts and schedules to support company planning processes.Prepare and/or manage the preparation of tax schedules and respond to requests for information in support of the legislative and regulatory processes under the direction of Director of Tax Regulatory Support.Actively participate in the analysis, selection, and maintenance of tax systems for use in filing tax returns/reports and lead continuous process improvement initiatives.Manage and develop Tax staff and coordinate training. Exercise oversight of outside consultants and contractors providing professional state & local income tax services and staff augmentation.Perform all other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Tax Manager

Six (6) years of experience to include State Income Tax Planning, Controversy, and Compliance and three (3) years direct supervisory experience.

Experience: State and Local Income Taxes Manager

Eight (8) years of experience to include State Income Tax Planning, Controversy, and Compliance and three (3) years direct supervisory experience.

Licenses/Certifications:

Professional Certification (CPA/JD), Graduate Business Degree, MBA, or Law Degree preferred.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Strong written & oral communication skills required.Candidate will need to be action oriented with the experience to anticipate business needs.Strong analytical skills with ability to solve complex issues.Relationship building internally and externally will be critical to success.Process skills to improve overall tax function will be important.Team oriented with high standards for work product will be essential.Values oriented leader with high levels of accountability for self as well as team.

Compensation:

Tax Manager- Grade 9: $110,656 - $143,853

State and Local Income Taxes Manager - Grade 10: $129,963 - $168,954

Compensation Range:

$129,963.00-168,952.00 USD

Candidates will be considered based on their qualifications and the candidate’s ability to work from an approved work location.
