State Tax Manager

The State Tax Manager will be primarily responsible for state income tax-related items for Ecolab Inc. This individual will play a crucial role in developing and executing state tax strategies and decision-making. They will oversee external tax compliance service providers for state income tax return preparation and lead the accuracy reviews of state income tax returns and quarterly and annual ASC 740 state tax provision calculations. This position involves managing state tax audits and serving as a key technical resource when evaluating the state tax impacts of proposed business, treasury, M&A, and tax initiatives.

What You Will Do:

Research and advise on potential state tax strategies, including identifying applicable credits, incentives, or other tax savings opportunities, and risk mitigation.Manage the engagement between Ecolab tax and service teams from outside firms, ensuring timely and accurate transmission of appropriate data for quarterly and year-end state income tax provision calculations, quarterly state income tax payments, and state income tax return preparation purposes.Review the accuracy and completeness of externally prepared state tax returns, extension and estimate calculations, ASC 740 state income tax provision calculations, and state-specific modifications.Collaborate closely with a U.S. compliance Senior on day-to-day state project execution.Manage the department tracking of state payment deposits, outstanding refund requests, and carryforward attributes.Assist the tax provision team in validating the accuracy of state tax account balance reconciliations.Oversee the collection of apportionment and other state source data, with the opportunity to guide improvements to systems and data collection processes.Provide guidance to the domestic planning team, including the M&A team, and treasury teams for state tax considerations.Opportunity to lead domestic credits and incentives projects with assistance from outside advisors.Advise on the state tax impacts of various business initiatives.Solve any issues arising from the completion of these tasks, working with the corporate tax team and external service providers.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field5 years of experience in public accounting or corporate taxation focused on state tax compliance, planningExposure to state aspects of ASC 740 tax accounting preparation or reviewImmigration sponsorship is not available for this role

Preferred Qualifications:

CPA or MST/MBTStrong record of problem solving, strategic/creative thinkingEmbraces a fast-paced environment, effective at balancing multiple prioritiesEffective communicator in team and one-on-one meetings and through emailAptitude to develop into a team leader, effective training and motivation skillsExperience with SAP, Alteryx, or other automation toolsExperience with OneSource Income Tax and OneSource Tax Provision software

Annual or Hourly Compensation Range

The base salary range for this position is $117,200.00 - $175,800.00. This position is eligible for annual bonus pay based on performance, per plan terms. Many factors are taken into consideration when determining compensation, such as experience, education, training, geography, etc. We comply with all minimum wage and overtime laws.
