Operates, repairs, and maintains the steam generating equipment, electrical generating equipment, refrigerated water production equipment and all auxiliary equipment associated with the utilities of the Hospital. The Stationary Steam Engineer/Powerhouse Mechanic is in direct charge of all steam boilers, steam turbines and auxiliary equipment as dedicated by the State of Ohio. Responsible for the continuous uninterrupted (24/7) safe and efficient operation of all systems and equipment. Participates in the maintenance of the equipment. Makes competent decisions regarding normal operations of the plant and under emergency situations that may occur.
1. Maintains continuous operation of plant under various load and seasonal conditions to assure the safe and efficient operations of all equipment.
2. Monitors the building automation systems, electrical generating system, emergency electrical generating systems as required to assist in the making competent decisions on what equipment must be operated in the Powerhouse to maintain continuous uninterrupted services.
3. Maintains continuous operation of steam generating equipment including repairs, preventative maintenance, and the preparation for annual inspections of all steam boilers and pressure vessels.
4. Maintains continuous operation of chilled water production equipment including repairs, preventative maintenance, and annual maintenance/ cleaning of the chillers.
5. Maintains continuous operation of cooling tower, including repairs and preventive maintenance.
6. Maintains continuous operation of compressed air systems, including repairs and preventive maintenance.
7. Maintains pneumatic and electrical boiler control systems, including repairs and preventive maintenance.
8. Maintains all steam turbine driven pumps and electric drive pumps and associated equipment including repairs and preventive maintenance. Pumps range in size from 75hp through 300hp.
9. Maintains continuous operation of all Powerhouse auxiliary equipment including repair and preventive maintenance which includes, but not limited to air handling units, chemical feed systems, maintenance, and calibration of pneumatic control systems.
10. Performs all water and chemical analysis and treatment on all steam and chilled water systems, including the handling of potentially dangerous chemicals.
11. Maintains emergency diesel fire pump. Test run fire pump weekly, log operating parameters.
12. Operations and monitors the computer building automation systems as they relate to environmental climate control through the hospital and off-site locations, which include:
a. Sterilization systems
b. Laundry
c. Dietary equipment
d. Oxygen and medical gas equipment
e. Monitors outdoor conditions to anticipate operating changes to maintain an efficient operation as it relates to meeting the steam demand and cooling loads of the facility.
13. Maintains areas of responsibility in a neat and orderly manner, including cleaning and general housekeeping.
14. Maintains all operational logs as it pertains to the plants’ operation, which includes the oxygen tank level, log, boiler log, boiler efficiency log, gas reading log, fire pump log, water treatment log and daily shift operational log.
