Stationary Steam Engineer
**Hourly rate: $34.92** **This is an IAMAW Union position.** The successful candidate will join the Facility Operations, Steam Plant team to support the Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering Contract (CMOE) located at NASA Langley Research Center. This position reports directly to the Steam Plant supervisor. All work will be performed with a high standard of quality and professionalism. All safety policies and procedures must be followed. **Responsibilities** + Operation of boilers, air compressors, air dryers, pumps, and auxiliary equipment. + Observes, interprets, and records readings on gauges, meters, and charts, which register various aspects of boiler, boiler subsystems and other utility systems operations both on-site and remote. + Adjusts controls to ensure safe and efficient boiler operations and to meet demands for steam or high-temperature water. + Keeps all main and auxiliary machinery and equipment of the system in good working order. + Performs Operator Maintenance to include lubricating, and emergency/minor repairs. + Assists maintenance personnel during facility outages to include repairs to boiler room equipment, including pumps valves, piping, and other auxiliary equipment. + Performs a variety of administrative duties such as typing, filing and generating reports, assisting with the development of SOP's, drawings, and ISO documents. + May be required to work an off-shift or rotating shift environment to include weekends and holidays. **Qualifications** U.S. Citizenship required. ASOPE or NUILPE Operating Engineer's license is required or 8 years work experience plus an apprenticeship or equivalent training period in a designated field, craft, or trade that can be documented by a certificate or diploma from a reputable organization, military, school, or trade school program. **Essential Functions** Work Environment + Test Environment - May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals, and industrial facilities. (90%) + Travel between various facilities and during test operations may be required and may bring exposure to loud noise and potentially hazardous equipment operation. (10%) + Respond to casualties (equipment failures) that require climbing straight ladders (fixed) and operate large hand valves with or without chain operator. (2%) Physical Requirements + Visual and physical (hands on) contact of test related systems, hardware, articles. + Requires climbing, crawling, bending, and body mobility. (30%) + Lifting, carrying, exerting pressure up to 35 lbs. (10%) + Ability to distinguish basic colors (10%) + Corrected vision (100%) + Hearing (100%) Equipment and Machines + Boilers, air compressors, air dryers, pumps, fans, turbines, and other auxiliary equipment. Attendance + Regular attendance mandatory (100%). Overtime/work outside normal schedule required (20%) **Other Essential Functions** + **U.S. Citizenship required.** + **A valid driver’s license is required.** + **Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.** + Must be able to work in a team atmosphere. + Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. + Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety/risk hazard to the employee or others. + The work environment requires the ability to cooperate and work with individuals at all levels of the company and the client.
