The Statistical Science Associate Director has extensive experience working as a statistician in the pharmaceutical industry, capable of independently performing and leading statistical work within a project. This individual is recognized as a methodology expert and can lead and direct Biometrics work either in-house or in partnership with CROs to ensure delivery to quality and time.

For a project or indication in clinical or preclinical therapeutic areasLeading the delivery and oversight on multiple studies/indications within a project, potentially as a Global Project Statistician for a standard drug projectContributing to statistical methodological advancesThe accountabilities for supporting projects directly include:Lead the statistical thinking and contributions to the delivery of studies, development plans, regulatory strategy, health technology assessment, and/or commercial activitiesDirect project work, including statistical staff and/or CRO partners, to ensure delivery to standards, quality, and timeDevelop design options and provide high-quality decision support to enable the business to make informed decisions about a study or projectQuantify the benefit, risk, value, and uncertainty of the emerging asset/product profileInvestigate and apply novel statistical approaches for relevant statistical issues and/or regulatory guidance and/or value demonstration, including modeling and simulationMentor/coach and support the education and training of statistics staffThe accountabilities for supporting statistical methodological advances include:Ability to consult across project teams within the area of expertiseApplication of expert skills to investigate and apply novel statistical approaches for relevant statistical issues and/or regulatory guidance and/or value demonstration, including modeling and simulationProduce pragmatic solutions, often within a tight time scale where the emphasis will be to deliver first, then refine and develop solutions thereafterContribute to or lead the development of a process improvement and/or capability area within the departmentEstablish and improve standards and best practices, applying novel statistical approaches to increase effectiveness and efficiencyInteract with external scientists and represent AstraZeneca Biometrics externally via publications and presentations on novel statistical approaches and best practicesMentor/coach and support the education and training of statistics staff in the technical arenaEssential Skills/Experience:Masters degree with 10+ years of relevant experienceOR PhD with 5+ years of relevant experienceStrong knowledge of programming in R and/or SASKnowledge of the technical and regulatory requirements related to the roleExcellent communication skills and ability to build strong relationshipsTechnical: Usually PhD in Statistics or a relevant topicExperience of independent researchDelivering innovative statistical solutions in an applied environmentDesirable Skills/Experience:Project Management SkillsProficiency in SAS and R/Python languagesKnowledge of Bayesian statistics from theory to computation is a plusTechnical: Track record of research and methodological development in Statistics, supported by scientific publications in first-class statistical journalsAt AstraZeneca, we push the boundaries of science to change the practice of medicine and transform the lives of patients living with cancer! The annual base pay for this position ranges from $144,037.60 - 216,056.40. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
