Overview FTE: 1.0 Shift Hours: DAYS Days of Week: MONDAY-FRIDAY (w/ rotating call requirement) The Stem Cell Specialist supports the Clinical Bone Marrow Transplant Program through demonstration of a superior level of technical proficiency, critical thinking, and problem solving in such areas as processing and cryopreservation of hematopoietic progenitor stem cells, interpretation of red blood cell group antigens, complex antibody identifications and compatibility, assistance in procurement of hematopoietic progenitor cells (bone marrow, apheresis), and verification of appropriate donor Human Leukocyte Antigen (LHA) results, interactions with physicians regarding cell doses for transplants, participation in quality assurance and accreditation initiatives, and collaboration with researchers developing new procedures. The Stem Cell Specialist provides technical support to achieve the organization's mission of excellent patient care and nursing's vision of setting a new standard of excellence in autonomous and accountable nursing practice committed to patient advocacy and innovative patient care in a climate of trust and collaboration. Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelor's degree in biological science or related area preferred or comparable experience Current Florida Medical Technologist license or ASCP Certification as a Technologist in at least one of the following: Hematology, Immunohematology, Serology Proficiency in using sterile technique required Previous experience in Stem Cell Processing and cell culturing preferred, but experience in Blood Banking or HLA Typing acceptable Analytical skills required Computer operational skills using personal computers, laboratory system or other hospital system preferred Additional Considerations: May be required to be available during 'off' hours for emergency call back May be required to work weekends, holidays, and other shifts.
