Within UAA, the Community Engagement and Leadership Education (CELE) Center provides students with opportunities to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to contribute to thriving communities. Building authentic community and campus partnerships drive our work. CELE programs are centered around the areas of community-engaged learning, democratic engagement, leadership education, pK-12 student success and place-based initiatives. Riverways Education Partnerships, a key program within the CELE Center, is a K-12 outreach program that connects undergraduate students from the University of Washington with tutoring and mentoring opportunities in local and regional K-12 schools and community organizations. Working with Riverways Education Partnerships provides a unique opportunity to learn about public education in general, as well as gain a better understanding of what it takes to cultivate partnerships between the University of Washington, K-12 schools, and students. Working with Riverways Education Partnerships also means having fun and joining a talented team of hardworking and passionate people! The Riverways Education Partnerships program in the Community Engagement and Leadership Education (CELE) Center currently has an outstanding opportunity for a full time STEM Engagement Program Manager. The STEM Engagement Program Manager oversees Riverways Education Partnerships’ initiatives to make the STEM field more inclusive of all peoples and ways of knowing, especially those from migrant, rural, and tribal backgrounds. Specifically, the Program Manager strengthens relationships with rural and tribal schools, manages the suite of STEM engagement programs including STEM Alternative Spring Break program, Culture and Science Exchange (CASE), Short Outreach Events and school campus visits. This position is responsible for developing and training others to facilitate culturally sustaining curriculum for these STEM engagement programs. Ultimately, Riverways’ STEM engagement programs contribute to the educational success of rural and tribal K-12 youth and transformative undergraduate learning experiences. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Rural and Tribal Partnerships in the Community Engagement and Leadership Education (CELE) Center, the STEM Engagement Program Manager will have the following responsibilities. **DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:** Collaborate with and supervise the STEM Engagement Program Coordinator and student interns in planning and delivery of all programs (20%) + Provide counseling, training, and support for undergraduates interested in Riverways Education Partnerships’ STEM Engagement programs. + Orient the Equity in STEM Program Coordinator and student interns to Riverways Education Partnerships’ philosophies and best practices. + Support the Equity in STEM Program Coordinator and student interns to sustain a manageable workload, build upon their strengths, and expand their capacities. + Support the Equity in STEM Program Coordinator in all areas of their work: recruitment, program coordination of STEM ASB and CASE-Yakama, CASE-Quileute, CASE-Makah, Campus Visits, Short Outreach Events.Manage Riverways’ STEM Alternative Spring Break (ASB) program (20%) + Develop and sustain reciprocal partnerships with rural and tribal community partners in Western and Eastern Washington + Manage the design, logistics, and implementation of the STEM ASB program. + Implement training for UW students in the Riverways’ STEM ASB program. + Train and support students to serve as Team Leaders for the STEM ASB program.Manage Riverway’s Culture And Science Exchange (CASE)-Yakama program (20%) + Manage a reciprocal partnership with the Campbell Farm community center on the Yakama Indian Reservation. + Support Campbell Farm in designing and implementing the Campbell Farm after-school iSTEAM club. Ensure alignment with the NESSP Theory of Action. + Provide training and support for UW students in the Riverways’ CASE program. + Onboard, train, and support the CASE Team Leader - in collaboration with the Equity in STEM Program Coordinator + Co-facilitate quarterly preparatory EDUC 401 seminars for CASE Mentors + Oversee the design and implementation of site visits and campus visitsSupport implementation of the NASA/NESSP grant (20%) + Work with the CELE Fiscal Specialist to coordinate procurement of programming materials and payments to vendors and contractors. + Ensure evaluation surveys are implemented and support data collection efforts. + Participate in meetings and collaborate with NASA SciAct Northwest Earth & Space Sciences Pathways (NESSP) program partners as possible/necessary.Develop and sustain reciprocal community and campus partnerships (10%) + Manage reciprocal partnerships with rural communities in Western and Eastern Washington, with a focus on partnerships with Native and Latinx communities. + Support the NSF CAREER engineering grantee partner with:shadowing the seminar and programalignment of their program with Riverways’ approaches and practicesdeveloping a relationship with a rural site for ASB program years 2023 – 2026 + Develop and maintain partnerships with UW campus groups engaged in STEM outreach work. Connect them with our community partners, consult on best practices, plan logistics, and support implementation of collaborative projects. + Identify and develop new partnerships with UW faculty in STEM fields to develop new STEM ASB programsCommunity Engagement and Leadership Education (CELE) and UAA Contributions (10%) + Participate in CELE staff meetings and working groups + Serve on committees within CELE Center and other campus projects as requested **All UAA CELE Staff will demonstrate and integrate the following Undergraduate Academic Affairs Competencies:** Accountability and IntegrityRace, Equity, and DifferenceConstituent FocusCollaboration and Teamwork **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:** + Bachelor's degree. + At least three years of experience working with K-12 schools and/or community agencies. _Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration._ **ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS** + Commitment to and knowledge of reciprocal community partnerships and working with diverse populations. + Enthusiasm for organizing NASA-inspired STEM projects with middle and high school students. + Experience in program coordination and education for teenagers or young adults (either in a volunteer or staff role). + Demonstrated ability to take initiative, follow through on independent projects, and balance multiple priorities. + Demonstrated excellent organizational skills with an emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail. + Excellent oral and written communication skills. + Enthusiasm for learning new approaches to mentorship, teaching and education. + Commitment to cultivating a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of many social, economic, cultural, gender, ideological, racial, and ethnic backgrounds. **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:** + Experience working with undergraduates or K-12 populations, and communities in Eastern Washington. + Experience working with Native and/or Latinx communities. + Experience with developing dynamic science or engineering curriculum. + Interest in making at least a two-year commitment to the position. + Bachelor's degree in a science field. **Application Process:** The application process may include completion of a variety of online assessments to obtain additional information that will be used in the evaluation process.
