The Stephen R. Covey Leadership Center's mission in the Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University is to develop principle-centered leaders of character and competence, who elevate society. The Covey Leadership Fellows are mission-critical in the creation and delivery of leadership development opportunities that enable the growth and transformation of the Utah State University student body, members of the community, and beyond.
The Covey Leadership Program Associate is a highly innovative individual that is driven to dream big to make a lasting impact on USU and beyond. It is the responsibility of the Program Associate to oversee the creation of events and programs that are compelling and transformative. The Stephen R. Fellows Team Manager:
The Covey Fellows are the life-blood of our programs and offerings. You are responsible for:
Setting the vision for the teamManage goals, roles, and projects of each fellow and the team as a wholeMeet with each fellow weekly to discuss goals and important deadlinesCovey Leadership Club Co-Advisor:
The Covey Leadership Club is a community of students who are interested in developing their leadership and helping others to do the same. Overseen by yourself and Bret Crane, and led by the Covey Leadership Fellows, this community provides support for many of the activities of the Covey Leadership Center and receives additional opportunities for their personal leadership development.
Leadership Workshop Developer:
The Covey Leadership Center is frequently hosting leadership workshops with different groups of students and professionals. These groups may include, Green Canyon High School Athletics, USU clubs, elementary student groups, CAPSA, and more. It is the Covey Fellows responsibility to discover the needs of their workshop participants, develop the content, and facilitate its delivery in a professional manor. You help coordinator, organize and create these and new opportunities.
K-12 Engagement Manager
Leadership Development Opportunities for K-12 students have four models. Your role will be to develop these programs more in-depth from a curriculum standpoint and expand to as many students across the state as we see fit.
- Half Day Leadership Conferences: 300-400 students from schools in the surrounding area travel to a centralized location to learn more about principle-centered leadership. Our trainings revolve around our LEAD model.Expected conferences during the 2025-26 school year:
September 2025 - Southern Utah Emerging Leaders Conference - Hosted in St. George (Middle School Students)September/October 2025 - Central Utah Emerging Leaders Conference - Hosted in Utah County (Middle School Students)October 2025 - Northern Utah Emerging Leaders Conference - Hosted at USU Logan Campus (Middle School Students)Assemblies: Synthesized, 60-minute version of our half-day conference themed to share in auditoriums with as many as 500-700 students at a time. We expect to host 6 of these assemblies during Spring 2025Travel to Schools:
High School Sports Team Captains Trainings: Facilitate dynamic leadership workshops designed for high school sports team captains. These events emphasize the captains' unique influence on their teams and equip them with skills to learn, adapt, stay flexible, and inspire a shared sense of purpose. Workshops are customized and developed to accommodate each high school -- workshops are executed per sports season at High Schools all over Cache Valley (Fall, Winter, and Spring). The focus of the learning will be on the Covey Center's LEAD Model—Learning, Empathy, Authenticity, and Drive.USU Leadership Conference Workshops: Carry out experiential and engaging workshops with 3 groups of 200-300 students body officers at High Schools all around the state. This is in conjunction with the USU Ambassador program summer leadership conference.Mentorship Program Lead:
Our Mentorship Program is designed to connect our Founders board with dedicated members of the Covey Center seeking support and mentorship in their pursuit of life and career. Your responsibility is to identify willing Founders, vet interested students, pick a good match, and facilitate the relationship between both parties. 2024-25 we had 8 mentors and 25 students as part of the program.

Principle-Centered Leader Award:The Stephen R. Covey Principle-Centered Leadership Award is presented annually to a person whose service and significant contributions to the world are known to have been achieved through principled leadership--a person of character and competence, courage and humility. You will host a luncheon and speaking engagement to present our chosen individual with this award.Beacon Leadership Conference:In collaboration with Universities all across the Intermountain West, the Beacon Leadership Conference focuses on building 'Principle-Centered Leaders'. We define principle-centered leadership as a specific type of leadership that focuses on the development of individual character and virtue. Operating under the notion that leadership is not a position, but rather a choice to live. This conference creates a space for students from different universities to think critically, solve problems, incorporate foundational leadership principles, and practice leadership together. You will be responsible for carrying out the vision of the event by developing a day to include:KeynotesStudent-Led Leadership WorkshopsProfessional-Led Leadership WorkshopsNetworking mixer with live music, food, and carnival gamesLeadership Credential Manager
Our Stephen R. Covey Leadership Credential is an undergraduate leadership development program to help students across campus have a structured way to learn, teach, develop and apply Principle-Based Leadership. Workshops and club events coupled with implementation assignments will allow students to gain high value professional & character skills to put on their resume.
