Summary:
Requires basic knowledge relating to instrument decontamination, packaging and sterilization procedures; the ability to identify, by name and surgical specialty, a large variety of surgical instruments; ability to prioritize workload; the ability to deal positively with a variety of customers, oftentimes in highly stressful situations; the ability to work independently as well as in a team setting. The Technician must recognize the professional responsibility for maintaining instrumentation, equipment and supplies for all Operating Rooms and all other departments served by Sterile Processing. Failure to do so can compromise care, patient, staff and physician satisfaction, as well as decrease the efficiency and fiscal responsibility to Northern Light Health.
Responsibilities:

+ Minimizes discussions that may be disruptive or a distraction to the unit's workflow
+ Personal growth demonstrated by keeping up to date with changes in practice or standards and maintaining certification and/or increase working knowledge of SPD standards and expectations
+ Personal growth demonstrated by keeping up to date with daily huddles or postings
+ Participates in staff meetings, reads minutes and initials if unable to attend
+ Evaluates own strengths and weaknesses and seeks opportunities for personal/professional growth
+ Participates in interviewing and recommending new staff for hire
+ Knows proper cleaning and handling of equipment per IFU. Can access info when in doubt
+ Maintains accurate and complete records for HLD
+ Assembles surgical instrument sets, items and trays following procedures per workstation software
+ Understands principles of steam and hydrogen peroxide plasma sterilization
+ Maintains an accuracy rate of 99.5 to 100%
+ Works independently at all workstations
+ Inspects and test surgical instruments for proper function
+ Replenishes surgical specialty carts according to defined inventory
+ Demonstrates flexibility in performing assignments to meet the needs of SPD's customers
+ Utilizes skills in identifying and improving processes to provide service excellence
+ Uses appropriate size/ type pakaging material
+ Uses chemicals and cleaning products in a manner/ concentration recommended by manufacturer
+ Routinely reviews inventories of supplies, forms, accessories, etc. to ensure that established par levels are maintained without overstocking.
