Sterile Processing Coordinator -- Sterile Supply/OR -- Greenbrier Valley Medical Center - 1320 Maple

Job Summary

Assist the Central Services Manager with the management of the Central Service Department. Provide direct supervision of day shift personnel and assist evening and midnight supervisors when appropriate. Provide for the coordination of Central Service Q/A and education as it relates to all sterilization techniques and practices. Act as on-site expert and trainer for Sterile Processing Technicians. Implement performance standards and measurements. Maintain tracking of standards and indicators. Responsible for identification of sterilization and development solutions. Coordinate payroll functions and problems with the Central Service Manager. Employee may access secure medication supply areas to complete assigned job duties.

 

Responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision, guidance, and direction to all Sterile Processing Technicians, Specialists, and Inventory Controllers. Assist with preparation of the work schedule and assign job duties for day shift. Assist with hiring, promotion, evaluation, and disciplinary action. • Monitor and review the quality of services provided by the department and staff performance. • Provide constant input to the Manager regarding budget needs, supply and equipment issues, educational opportunities, etc. • Act as a resource for all staff including lead, evening, and midnight technicians. • Assist with the development of certain department policies/procedures and coordinate various special projects, such as policy and procedure initiation. • Coordinate all technical training. Coordinate unit orientation programs for new staff members and those with special needs. Maintain inservice/education records. • Assist the manager in assuring the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (accrediting body) requirements for the department are met. • Assist & train in the preparation of surgical and procedural trays. • Assist & train in the sterile processing and distribution functions. • Oversee proper maintenance of all Central Service equipment. • Maintain accurate records and the integrity of the sterilization equipment. • Perform all payroll functions. • Monitor Q.A./Q.C. activities. • Assume full responsibility over department in the absence of the Central Service Manager.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact) The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients. Competency Statement Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist. Perform work in alignment with the overall mission and strategic plan of the organization. 8. Follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures, as applicable. 9. Perform related duties as assigned.

 

Education 

• High School Diploma or GED (Required) Experience: 4 years experience as Certified Central Service Technician. Substitution: Associate Degree plus 2 years experience may substitute for high school diploma plus 4 years Related Field experience.

 

Credentials 

• Central Service Tech, Cert (Required)
