Summary:
The Sterile Processing Quality Coordinator reports to the Manager of Sterile Processing. Under general supervision plans designs monitors and audits procedures for a variety of activities related to the processing sterilization and HLD of medical devices to assure compliance with quality and safety standards. Helps the SPD Educator in developing a training certification program for sterile processing personnel on the standard techniques in decontamination assembly sterilization/HLD and distribution of sterile processing. Maintains appropriate documentation on all related information systems for the purpose of implementing training procedures for personnel to include EPIC People Soft Instrument tracking system etc. Establishes and maintains a relationship with the operating room management and staff as well as OR Educator for training development and education/inservices etc..
Responsibilities:
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible quality for all sterile processing departments
2. Creates programs to improve the quality of the service and products provided by sterile processing department.
3. Provides quality assurance programs/audits and the support necessary for staff in the field of sterile processing.
4. Reports on quality metrics and improvement projects.
5. Ensures that the department meets all the regulations standards and guidelines consistent with AORN AAMI The Joint Commission CMS CDC OSHA and FDA requirements as well as the hospital�s policies and procedures.
6. Takes integral part on creating and maintaining sterile processing department policies with up-to-date information
7. Represents sterile processing through consultation on interdepartmental and interdisciplinary committees and task forces.
8. Maintains and updates professional knowledge by actively participating in professional seminars and organizations.
9. Monitors and checks for compliance of all SPD equipment logs on a routine basis and enacts plans to keep staff and department compliant with policies procedures and standards.
10. Disciplines staff as needed in relation to quality compliance in all areas of sterile processing and HLD.
Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

KNOWLEDGE:
Required:
1. High school diploma.
1. Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) through the International Association of Health Care Central Service Material Management or other certification boards.
2. Advanced Certifications: Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL) or Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS). One of these must be obtained within 12 months of hire and the other within 18 months of hire as a condition of employment.
Preferred:
Bachelor�s degree in Science Healthcare or related field preferred..
EXPERIENCE:
1. Minimum of 4 years in the Sterile Processing field.
2. Minimum of 2 years of educator quality or supervisory responsibility within the sterile processing field.
3. Strong working knowledge of principles and practices of sterile processing field.
4. Must demonstrate expert knowledge of instrumentation equipment inventory management and case cart management.
5. Proficient oral and written (English language) communication skills required in order to fulfill documentation and presenting requirements associated with the position.
6. Computer and Microsoft office proficient.
7. Excellent interpersonal skills.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Works in patient care environment and sterile processing area with some exposure to infectious disease contaminated equipment supplies and instruments; hazards are minimized when established safety procedures are followed.
