Sterile Processing Tech 2

Job Summary: The Sterile Processing Technician 2 is a certified central service technician. Performs sterile processing of routine and specialized instrumentation, equipment and trays. Decontaminates, assembles, and performs terminal sterilization using Steam and chemical methods. Performs quality control, operates washers and sterilizers. Maintains records of sterilization cycles per the Joint Commission and industry standards. Performs inventory and restocking, maintains instrument and equipment inventories. Utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize excellence in customer service and safe patient care. Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce. Takes call after hours, nights, weekends and holidays as assigned. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: High school graduate or GED required. Minimum one year experience in Central Service required.

Knowledge and Skills: Able to write legibly; speak; assemble equipment and perform activities as required; use computer and software programs necessary to the position. Able to communicate effectively, and professionally with others, be assertive and consistent in following policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure, collaborate with others; accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in person, in writing and on the telephone; perform basic math functions essential to position; think critically; organize and prioritize workload; manage multiple assignments effectively; work well under pressure, problem solve; recall information; pay close attention to detail; document legibly; use computer for essential job duties. Able to distinguish colors, hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position.

Licensures and Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association required. Central Service Technician Certification required.
