Sterile Processing Technician (Per Diem)

As a Sterile Processing Technician you will decontaminate/reprocess surgical instrumentation; and utilize a working knowledge of a surgical case cart system.
Responsibilities:
Education and Training:
+ High School diploma or equivalent required.
+ Completion of a Central Sterile processing program required
+ Completion of a sterile processing documented 400 hour externship required
Experience and Knowledge:
+ 1 year experience in sterile processing tech role preferred
Registration, Licensure and/or Certification:
+ Certified Registered Central Service Technician certification required (CRCST) through HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) formally IAHCSMM
+ CBSPD certification accepted with 2+ years working experience
Skills:
+ Ability to properly identify correct sterilization methods for tray processing
+ Can identify basic instrumentation and differentiate reusable from disposable
+ Demonstrate receipt, documentation, processing, and distribution of loaner instrumentation and equipment
+ Accurately perform testing and document results of equipment cycles daily
+ Cleans contaminated instruments in accordance with protocols and procedures.
+ Inspects and lubricates instruments in accordance with protocols, procedures, and manufacture’s recommendations.
+ Demonstrate ability to decontaminate soiled items using proper manual and mechanical processes and equipment
+ Per IFU’s disinfect, inspect, and maintain medical equipment for distribution.
+ Effectively processes equipment and sterile supplies for nursing departments, patient care departments, and other Crozer-Chester Medical Center facilities.
+ Prepares instrument trays according to instrument count sheet ensuring proper inspection and testing has been performed
+ Wraps instruments and trays in accordance with protocols and procedures appropriate to the wrapping materials and devices IFU.
+ Operates steam and hydrogen peroxide sterilizers in accordance with protocols, procedures, and manufacturer’s recommendations.
+ Demonstrates a clear understanding of biological testing, incubation and documentation
+ Inspects sterile supplies weekly, or as needed, identifying those with non-intact packaging or expired shelf life and reprocessing supplies when required.
+ Assembles and sterilizes all instrument trays, including specialty instrument trays using proper preparation techniques, choosing the right container systems, utilizing correct integrators and the correct method of sterilization.
+ Ensures receipt of proper requisition forms and/ or patient charge forms prior to issuance of supplies to nursing and other departments.
+ Checks inventory and requisitioned departmental supplies on a weekly basis.
+ Confers with nursing personnel concerning request for supplies and equipment.
+ Demonstrates the correct use of dispensed patient care equipment.
+ Reports equipment issues to immediate supervisor and puts in a service ticket.
+ Ability to produce 20-25 sets containing 10 or more instruments in a shift
+ Knowledge of mechanical washers, ultrasonic washers and steam and sterrad equipment and cycles
+ Provides detailed understanding of proper PPE
Physical Demands and Sensory Requirements:
+ Able to lift maximum of 50lbs
+ Able to stand for hours at a time
+ Great listening skills and ability to understand medical terminology
+ Computer literate in Microsoft office
+ Ability to wear PPE in confined spaces for hours at a time

+ Minimal risk present when following all guidelines and wearing proper PPE’s

Proper attire available in locations needing equipment
