Storage Engineer - ISD Computer Oper Tech Support

Summary: Responsible for administering the Storage, Backup and Recovery Infrastructure for the health system. Takes architectural directions and transform them into supportable Storage and Recovery technology standards within the data centers. Ensures the Storage/Recovery infrastructure effectively supports the on-going business operations, revenue and strategic direction of the organization. This Storage Engineer position is for our backup infrastructure: - Support and maintain our institutional backup infrastructure - Provide on-call support, as needed, such assisting users with restore requests and resolving Incidents - Implement changes and updates to our backup system, under the direction of our Backup Architects - Assist in trouble-shooting issues - Work with the incident and problem management on root causes and proactive avoidance of future incidents on backup and recovery systems Preferred Skills: - Strong experience with backup, recovery, DR & replication technologies - Experience with Commvault Responsibilities: 1. Ensures storage provisioning, performance tuning, adding volumes, scripting for automating of tasks, assigning ports, error tracking, data movement, software configurations, product evaluation, and addressing compatibility issues. The employee stays informed of current and emerging technologies for storage and Backup/Recovery trends, in order to advise and counsel on their potential strategic value. 2. Leads the creation of standards, best practices and new processes for operational integration of new technology solutions. Governs the Storage, Backup and Recovery environment to ensure compliance to defined standards and operational procedures. 3. Translates highly technical solutions/problems to audience at varying technical levels. 4. Uses technical knowledge and experience in operational maintenance, availability, capacity planning, and monitoring of critical Storage Area Networking (SAN), Network Attached Storage (NAS) and other storage related environments. Uses knowledge and leadership in emerging storage technologies such as IT business continuity, replication, encryption, de-duplication, storage virtualization, thin provisioning, virtual tape, storage resource management (SRM), and database cloning. **Other Information** **Education Requirements:** ● Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management or related field (or equivalent combination of education, training and experience). **Licensure/Certification Requirements:** ● No licensure or certification required. **Professional Experience Requirements:** ● If a Bachelor's degree: Two (2) years of experience in server/storage management. ● If an Associate's degree: Four (4) years of experience in server/storage management. ● If a High School diploma or GED: Six (6) years of experience in server/storage management. **Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:** ● Ability to work well in a team environment. **Job Details** Legal Employer: NCHEALTH Entity: Shared Services Organization Unit: ISD Computer Oper Tech Supp Work Type: Full Time Standard Hours Per Week: 40.00 Salary Range: $29.98 - $43.10 per hour (Hiring Range) Pay offers are determined by experience and internal equity Work Assignment Type: Remote Work Schedule: Day Job Location of Job: US:NC:Morrisville Exempt From Overtime: Exempt: Yes This position is employed by NC Health (Rex Healthcare, Inc., d/b/a NC Health), a private, fully-owned subsidiary of UNC Health Care System, in a department that provides shared services to operations across UNC Health Care; except that, if you are currently a UNCHCS State employee already working in a designated shared services department, you may remain a UNCHCS State employee if selected for this job.
