ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB’s growing Watertown, MA team is looking for a water resources professional to join its dynamic team of Water Resource scientists and engineers and support our growing water quality and stormwater regulatory planning and compliance work.  This is an exciting opportunity to work with a cutting edge, innovative team of multidisciplinary professionals working on water resources work such as MS4 stormwater program management, stormwater-related policy review and guidance, integrated water resources planning, resiliency planning, watershed management and stormwater treatment planning, stormwater master planning, and Clean Water Act permitting-related tasks.

 

Responsibilities 

Responsibilities would include a range activities which may include:

Participate as technical lead, task and project manager and mentor in an interdisciplinary water resources team Identify short-term deadlines, deliverables and tasks as well as long-term client goalsLead a project team developing stormwater regulatory compliance programs for state and local government clientsOversee field investigations including, but not limited to, stormwater system inspections, construction site inspections, stormwater system mapping, and water quality samplingDevelop data management tools in ArcGIS, including ArcGIS OnlineAnalyze and interpret data related to water quality and drainage asset management to develop appropriate next steps for clientsDevelop innovative approaches for internal and client workflowsOversee the preparation of technical reports, graphics, and guidance documentsLead the development of federal, state, and local permit applications Identify stormwater program funding approaches, including preparing grant applications and developing stormwater enterprise funds

Skills and Abilities

Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skillsDemonstrated leadership and mentoring skills requiredAbility to solve problems and think creativelyDetail-oriented and highly organizedTeam oriented with strong capability to motivate othersStrong technical writing and presentation skillsStrong project management and budget tracking skillsStrong understanding of environmental regulations, including the Clean Water Act, Massachusetts MS4 Permit, and Massachusetts Wetland Protection ActData analysis and visualization skills a plusExperience with hydrologic/hydraulic modeling software a plusWorking understanding of ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and spatial database developmentUnderstanding of hydrologic processes, water quality treatment mechanisms, and drainage system design conceptsAbility to travel, if required

Qualifications

BS in civil/environmental engineering, environmental science or related discipline8+ years required, 11+ years preferred of stormwater, water quality, and/or regulatory experience, including project management experience Experience supervising or mentoring a plus
