Strain Improvement Microbiologist
Site Name: UK - West Sussex - Worthing Posted Date: Oct 1 2024 Strain Improvement Microbiologist – 6-8 Months Fixed Term Contract Closing Date for Applications – 15th October (COB) This is a site-based role at Worthing. We are looking to recruit a microbiologist to join our Strain Improvement team in the BioProcess Science group based on the Worthing site. As part of this team, you will be involved in mutating microbes, namely fungi and Streptomyces sp., and screening mutants using high-throughput methodologies and shake flask fermentations to isolate strains with improved characteristics. As such, we are seeking individuals with hands-on experience in microbiological and aseptic techniques. You will have a proven track record in working as part of a team and have an eye for detail. To identify areas for improvement in microbial screening programme, conduct experiments to verify improvements and incorporate them into the screen. Ensure all data is recorded in appropriate format. Analyse data using appropriate statistical software and use results to improve the screening programme. Communicate clearly and present work and ideas regularly at internal meetings. To adhere to and help maintain the highest levels of Safety and Good Laboratory Practise (GLP) across the department. Why you? Qualifications & Skills: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: Graduate qualification in Microbiology / a Life Sciences subject, or a number of years of practical experience in an industrial setting. Understanding and experience of using aseptic techniques. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel / PowerPoint Preferred Qualifications & Skills: If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus: Experience in an industrial setting working with microorganisms.
