Strategic Procurement & Capacity Manager

C.H. Robinson is looking for an ambitious Strategic Procurement & Capacity Manager to develop and execute capacity solutions for temperature-controlled North American inland and channel partners, with a focus on securing domestic transportation and warehousing for high-value or high-theft commodities. This role aims to reduce broker reliance, control costs, and ensure ISO/GDP compliance across healthcare, automotive, retail, and electronics sectors.

You’ll play a key role in reducing broker dependency, controlling costs, and improving security and compliance for high-value shipments. By building a network of specialized carriers, secure warehouses, and yards, it ensures product integrity, drives efficiency, and supports scalable vertical business growth while mitigating risks.

Responsibilities:

Procurement/Capacity

Serves as capacity lead in pre-RFP planning process.  Provides subject matter expertise and curates feasible solutions to execute the business opportunities. Identifies risks and collaborates with internal partners to effectively problem solve.Performs post award procurement planning; accountable to ensure award is appropriately matched to the right capacity solution/team. Interprets carrier analytics and leverages other tools (market data, freight and pricing tools and resources) to guide informed buying decisions within aligned geography. Works with portfolio teams to identify where additional capacity is needed.Align capacity strategies with customer needs for scalability and growthResponsible for activities that evaluate award health; monitors adherence to capacity procurement plan and performs monthly review against customer scorecards. Action plans to meet service metrics.Performs continuous improvement to capacity strategy over lifecycle of the award.  Provides day to day problem resolution; identifies opportunities and issues, determines the best course of action, and implements solutions. Works closely with internal resources on shipment updates, problem resolution and/or operational execution.Provide expertise, develop solutions, and deliver pricing for business opportunitiesMay provide direction to coverage team resources on freight prioritizationAccountable to market costing plans, ensuring capacity spend is in line with procurement plan and market conditionsMay be required to book freight as business needs dictateCreate, cultivate, and manage healthcare carrier channel partners (inland providers/warehouses secure yards)

Focuses on behaviors and activities to improve quality, including automation, on time performance and hourly complianceEnhance cost efficiency, security, and compliance for high-value shipmentsReview on time and compliance performance, aligning with customer security, ISO & GDP expectationsEnsures quality Key Performance Indicators are met according to aligned customer expectationsComplies with expectations as defined in internal trading rulesLeads communication and reinforcement of customer-specific security requirements to the owning rep and/or directly to the carrierEnsures high-risk/high-value fraud SOPs are strictly followed – will conduct audits including travelling for occasional onsite audits.Participate in weekly cadence of communication with healthcare commercial team. Contribute to stand-ups regularly.Develop intimate knowledge of the healthcare client base, representing specific needs/requirements to the capacity networkISO 9001 Lead Auditor certification to ensure audits are compliant with the ISO standards, and evidence basedManage Suppliers using the Quality Management System (QMS) and the Qualityze Supplier ModuleRequired Qualifications:High School diploma or GED equivalentAt least 5 years of global forwarding experience in a commercial or capacity facing role with direct or indirect leadership experienceAbility to influence without authority and collaborate across multiple verticalsWillingness to become ISO 9001 certified, which includes a certification class and the ability to pass the exam within two attemptsAbility to travel 15-20%

Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor's degree preferredPrevious experience creating strategic procurement solutionsFamiliarity with quality management systemsExcellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to tailor messaging to the appropriate audienceProfessional presence, strong influencing skills and ability to build effective relationships, primarily focused on mid to senior level leadership. Ability to gather various points of data to understand business conditions, draw conclusions and formulate an effective course of action. Capable of making effective decisions of varying difficulty and complexity, based on data, expertise, and circumstances specific to the situation. Ability to understand daily or hourly freight landscape and prioritize effectively to ensure optimal coverage

Compensation Range

$71,800.00 - $149,200.00
