Our Global Product Strategy (GPS) team plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of healthcare by driving the strategic direction of our innovative product portfolio. The Strategy Lead reports to the Head of Strategy in the Global Product Strategy (GPS) organization. This position sits at the crux of GPS, the strategic engine of Roche’s Pharma Division. The Strategy Lead plays an essential role in providing strategic thought partnership to Pharma Division leaders as well as catalyzing and supporting the development of strategies at both the Therapeutic Area and above Therapeutic area levels.  


The role offers a wide range of development and collaboration opportunities both within GPS and across the Roche Pharma enterprise. Within GPS, the Strategy Lead will work closely with the Ecosystem Insights and Competitive Intelligence teams as well as with the Therapeutic Area teams. Across the Roche Pharma enterprise, the Strategy lead will work with Therapeutic Area experts inpRED, gRED, PD and PI. The Strategy lead will also work closely with Portfolio groups across the enterprise, including Finance, the Portfolio Advisory Team, the Group Corporate Strategy organization and the Pharma CEO Office. 

Key responsibilities

Catalyze and orchestrate the development and the review of strategies (in close collaboration with enterprise experts), including (but not limited to): our One Pharma Strategy, the Therapeutic Area Strategies and Disease Area Strategies 

Provide a perspective on the portfolio health and priorities, ensuring these translate into informed decisions on GPS resourcing (including re-balancing and trade-off requirements) 

Integrate industry context and trends (in collaboration with Ecosystem Insights and Competitive Intelligence) 

Identify the potential implications external trends and the external competitor landscape to Roche, helping to shape and identify topics that are required to inform senior Pharma Division leadership decision making decisions to be taken by senior Pharma Division leadership 

Provide the strategic context to finance counterparts in the development of the annual business planning exercise 

Drive Pharma Division and Pharma Medicines priority strategic initiatives 

Who You Are

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent required, MBA/ PhD desirable 

Minimum 5 years of working experience with a clear understanding of business strategy and the Pharma industry; familiarity with Roche’s portfolio and strategy is a plus 

Strategy consulting and/or Investment Banking experience is a plus

Experience in interacting with and developing presentation materials for Senior Management is a plus

Strong interpersonal skills: has proven abilities to work effectively and efficiently in cross-functional, often virtual and matrix teams and develop important relationships across the company

Strong influencing skills: can ensure the accomplishment of goals and targets through indirect leadership

Strong communication skills: ability to transfer complex analysis, concepts, and ideas into convincing and clear communication

Strong English competency

We are recruiting for 8 positions and are planning to hire candidates at different seniority levels. We are intending to hire some more experienced people at the higher grade and some less experienced at the lower grade.
