Under supervision, performs aerial and underground electrical installations and repairs for street lighting circuits, and performs related duties as required.
**ESSENTIAL DUTIES** **:**
+ Examines wiring diagrams, circuit blueprints, and cable prints of public streetlights to determine existing electrical configurations
+ Locates and identifies defects in cables and wires using electrical measuring equipment (e.g., battery test circuit, amp meters)
+ Determine necessary repairs and prepare estimates for needed materials and equipment.
+ Adjusts and replaces timing devices and energized timing circuits.
+ Removes and replaces damaged electrical wires, light poles, polearms, and ornamental fixtures.
+ Installs new parts to replace malfunctioning equipment (e.g., bulbs, fuses, relays, photo eyes)
+ Installs and repairs alley lights.
+ Prepare work activity reports.
+ Operates an aerial boom from a line truck/van to reach aerial wires, as required.
+ Prepare work activity reports electronically on a tablet/ iPad or paper.

**Qualifications:**
**QUALIFICATIONS:**
+ Successful completion of a US Department of Labor registered lineman apprenticeship training program and journeyman status; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
+ A valid State of Illinois driver’s license is required.
**Working Conditions** **:**
+ Exposure to outdoor weather conditions
+ Exposure to hazardous conditions (e.g., traffic)
+ Work performed in cramped or confined locations.
+ Work performed above or below ground level.
+ Work performed using scaffolds and ladders.
+ Work performed at great heights with the use of safety belts.
**SELECTION REQUIREMENT** **:**
**This position requires candidates to pass a job knowledge/skills assessment.** Test results will be sent out by the Department of Human Resources after the test results have been compiled and analyzed. Applicants who successfully apply for the position, meet the minimum qualifications, and possess the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be hired in **seniority or lottery/random order.**
