Stroke and Telemedicine Program Coordinator - IDMH ED
Job Description MAIN FUCTION: Coordinate telemedicine related activities for the acute care hospital. This position reports to the Unit Director of the Emergency Department/Med Surg, and the individual works with nursing staff within the hospital to assist in completion of telemedicine-based consults when needed. As it pertains to tele-neurology, this individual coordinates activities to ensure quality and consistency for the care of stroke patients as defined by the NYS DOH and The Joint Commission. Major responsibilities include collaborating with physicians on patient care, development, implementation and maintenance of a computerized stroke registry, education, and training in stroke care at both the professional and paraprofessional levels, participation in quality improvement and the evaluation processes related to the management of patient care, orientation for staff. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ** 1. Is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Primary Stroke Center and all telemedicine programs, as defined by the Joint Commission, Department of Health, and our clinical practice guidelines. ** 2. Maintains current and accurate Stroke Registry. ** 3. Builds, maintains, and networks relationships with all current and future telemedicine providers and users including but not limited to tele-psychiatry, tele-critical care, and tele-neurology. ** 4. Leads the Stroke Center implementation and operational teams as designed. Ensures the timeline and key deliverables of the implementation plan are achieved. ** 5. Monitors compliance with regulatory guidelines, quality guidelines and NYS DOH stroke center designation guidelines. **6. Responds to Code Strokes and actively participates in those patient cares which may include the following: + Accurately and promptly implements physician's orders. + Administers medications and intravenous solutions skillfully and correctly. + Maintains the standards of accurate and complete recording and reporting. + Reports abnormal test results, reports patient condition changes to the physician promptly. ** 7. Utilizes various methods to increase stroke awareness. Works in collaboration with marketing, wellness, and outreach to conduct community education seminars and participation in health fairs in targeted outreach areas to increase stroke awareness and grow market share. ** 8. Participates in staff education on an individual and/or group basis as needed. Provides support to the Stroke Center team for continual learning. Facilitates development of education programs for staff orientation, annual education and yearly competencies related to the stroke center. ** 9. In collaboration with Stroke Medical Director and EMS Director, provides EMS providers with medical information relating to pre-hospital intervention and management of stroke patients. **10. Recognizes trends in stroke care, explores best practices to improve stroke care. Is accountable for the key performance measures of the Stroke Center. Works with the team to identify, track and report key performance measures including but not limited to: patient satisfaction, LOS, discharge disposition and stroke specific outcome tools as necessary. **11. Able to operate, perform and train others on basic troubleshooting of telemedicine equipment. 12. Has working knowledge of Corporate Compliance regulations and promptly reports any potential Corporate Compliance violations to the Corporate Compliance Officer. 13. Familiar with and demonstrates Continuous Quality Improvement principles and participates in the process as appropriate, focusing on meeting the customer service needs of the internal and external customers. 14. Must possess the highest ethical standards with respect to discretion and regard for confidential information. 15. Is responsible for attending all annual mandatory educational programs as required by position. 16. In order to provide the highest quality care to our patients and residents, individuals may be required to work hours beyond those normally scheduled. Work schedules may be subject to change based on the needs of the department. 17. EDUCATION: Licensure in nursing (RN) required. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or related field preferred. RN, licensed in the State of New York is required. Certifications in BLS and ACLS are required. EXPERIENCE: Two to three years in a hospital or health care setting preferred. Knowledge/training in medical terminology and data processing required. This position requires the ability to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of physical assessment skills as well as the technical skills necessary to provide nursing care for stroke patients, the ability to gather, collate and analyze statistical data, and to utilize and trouble-shoot computer technology. Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and to speak publicly in order to teach and clearly present material to all members of the health-related professions. Must demonstrate a high level of initiative, work independently, establish priorities and meet deadlines. Courtesy in dealing with patients and the public is essential. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Some physical effort is required. Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking. Positions, pushes, pulls, and lifts medium to heavy weights intermittently, regularly lifting up to 40lbs. EXPOSURE CATEGORY: Category II. Tasks that involve no body exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. But employment may require Category I tasks. #LI-TC1 Requirements EDUCATION: Licensure in nursing (RN) required.
