Structural Bridge Engineer

Responsibilities

Perform structural modeling, design, and oversight for bridge and other transportation infrastructure projectsPrepare construction documents, including plans, specifications, estimates, and calculation packagesProvide technical support to structural engineering staffConduct quality assurance reviews of project construction documents, engineering reports, etc.Assist in preparing qualification packages, proposals, and/or contracts involving technical approach, costs, and schedulingProvide project management supportLead structural inspections/evaluations and associated load capacity ratingsReview fabrication drawings and provide construction plan reviewsAssist project managers with coordination between various groups working on structural projects (e.g., highway, pedestrian, and railroad bridges; commuter rail stations; marine structures; energy projects; retaining walls)Participate in the proposal process, determining client requirements and developing plans, specifications, quantities of materials, construction cost estimates, reports, final bid packages, and related documents. Prepare technical reports and sections of proposals and/or contracts

Skills & Abilities

Experience completing engineering studies, design reports, compiling contract documents, and developing contract plans in conformity with accepted engineering standards and proceduresStrong familiarity with any of the following structural engineering software (e.g., Mathcad, FB-MultiPier, ATLAS, STAAD Pro, LARSA 4D, AASHTOWare, MDX, SP Column, MerlinDASH, FDOT Structures Design Programs, etc.)Model-based design experience is a strong plus, including:Bentley OpenBridge and OpenRoadsAutoCAD Civil 3D and Revit/Infraworks/InventorSelf-motivated with excellent attention to detail and qualityStrong technical skills in bridge/structural design and critical thinkingStrong organizational and time management skillsEffective and comfortable in a highly collaborative team environmentDemonstrated excellence in verbal presentations and technical writingExperience with and motivation to lead and mentor junior staffProject management skills

Minimum Qualifications:

5-8 years of structural bridge/transportation design experience required B.S. in Civil Engineering required (structural emphasis preferred) PE license required or ability to attain within 6 monthsEngineer in Training (EIT) certification required

The base salary range for this position is $95,000 - $140,000 for the Washington, DC location. This offer is determined based on a number of job-related factors including internal comparators, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities and geographic location.
