A Brief Summary of This Position:

Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for the Engineering Intern position on the Noth America Solar team. We are looking for a highly driven individual that will be an active participant in contributing to the goals of the design team, while learning best practices from some of the finest Engineers in the world. You will learn a tremendous amount in this role and will be given exposure to other parts of the business, including subject matter experts from a wide variety of divisions and professions.

Valmont’s internship program mission is to provide a hands-on learning experience through project work, leadership development, job shadowing, and interaction with senior leadership.

Essential Functions:

Perform structural design calculations according to local building codes in support of project design effortsPerform and manage engineering work using Structural Analysis software and other software to solve problems in structural design, finite element analysis, design optimization, fatigue analysis, structural dynamics and kinematics, vibrations, and thermal analysisAnalysis of project site Geotech reportProduce design documentation to be used for customer qualification and AHJ review and approvalWrite proposals, technical reports, and papersDevelop structural engineering calculation templates and proceduresReview and critique CAD construction drawings templatesParticipate in technical design review meetings and conference calls and provide structural design direction and inputFollow standard design and development procedures, recommending updates to design procedures when neededResponsible for providing creative and innovative engineering solutions that aid in the resolution of field and manufacturing problems and the maintenance and improvement of existing productsProvide technical support to other departments as required to meet the needs of our customersThis position reports to the Engineering Supervisor and has no direct or indirect reports.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate:

Enrolled in an accredited university and actively pursuing a degree in Civil or Structural EngineeringJunior or senior standing with an anticipated graduation in the next 18 monthsCAD skills including design applications and an ability to convert drawings to 3D models (Solidworks preferred)Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applicationDemonstrated strong communication interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skillsAbility to work effectively in a team environmentDemonstrated problem-solving/critical thinking skills
