Your work environment at EXP
EXP is currently seeking a Structural Engineer for its Chicago office to work within the Infrastructure – Transportation business practice. The selected candidate will work under the direct supervision the Department Manager – Bridges & Structures with a focus on highway and railway related structures. Project types will be diverse and include, but not be limited to, new structures, rehabilitation of existing structures, and inspection and evaluation of existing structures including bridges, culverts, retaining walls and railway facilities. The projects will involve a wide variety of structure types, foundations and materials for clients such as IDOT, CDOT, WisDOT, Tollway, Metra and CTA.
What a day at EXP has in store for you
Structural design for all project types, including complex bridges; Schematic/geometric layout design of new structures; Perform analysis and design calculations according to the applicable design codes; use computer programs as appropriate; Conduct load rating analysis for bridges; Prepare plan drawings and details, construction specifications and design calculations; Conduct on-site inspection, analysis and condition assessment of existing structures; Perform Construction and Life Cycle Cost estimates; Construction phase engineering support including reviews of shop drawings and requests for information; Assist project managers with scoping and budgeting for structural work and be responsible for quality assurance of deliverables.
What your experience looks like
BS in Civil/Structural Engineering and EIT certification required. Bridge Inspection experience, including NHI Course preferred but not required. Prior experience with complex bridge projects. Knowledge of bridge analysis, design and detailing as it pertains to IDOT, Tollway, CDOT, CTA, Metra, and local agencies and applicable design codes such as AASHTO and AREMA. Knowledge of structural analysis software including MDX, LARSA and RCPier preferred but not required. Proficient with Bentley’s MicroStation® and MS Office software. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
