Structural Designer/CAD Specialist II

As a Structural Designer (CAD Specialist II) and member of the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Mechanical Design Engineering (MDE) Team here at Honeywell, your duties will include creation of structural 3D models, detailed structural design drawings, and Bills of Materials to support a complex and dynamic LNG equipment business. The person in this role will generate models, drawings, and other deliverables to support the fabrication and installation of structural steel platforms, ladders, railings, and module steel frames related to LNG Coil Wound Heat Exchangers, other Pressure Vessels, Cold Boxes, and Modularized Liquefaction Equipment.

The Honeywell LNG Mechanical Design Engineering team designs and manufactures specialized Coil Wound Heat Exchangers and other natural gas liquefaction equipment. The equipment is designed by our engineering organization and fabricated at our manufacturing facility in Port Manatee, FL, or other domestic and international 3rd party facilities. Our customers use this equipment to liquefy extracted natural gas, massively improving its transportability as an energy source to end users around the world.

This role will focus on the creation and modification of 3D models, detailed structural design drawings, and Bills of Materials to support a complex and dynamic LNG equipment business. You will collaborate with other designers and engineers in the MDE team. Occasional collaboration with other functional areas including Process Engineering and Project Engineering will be required. Through collaboration with multiple engineering functions and manufacturing sites, the design team is responsible for designing and communicating the manufacturing details required to successfully build our state-of-the-art Coil Wound Heat Exchanger Technology, Cold Boxes, Modules, and other Equipment.

Other duties will include checking of detailed design drawings created by others, reviewing customer specifications, participating in internal and external model review meetings, and supporting heat exchanger design work, bid activities, continuous improvement, manufacturing activities, customer liaison, and field work.

You will report to our Mechanical Design Engineering Manager and be based at our Honeywell LNG Headquarters located in Allentown, PA.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

\n\nUtilize Hexagon’s Smart 3D CAD applications to create 3D design models, detailed structural design drawings, and modify existing structural designs including but not limited to equipment layout and pipe support design, etc\nMaintain and check Smart 3D models to ensure accuracy, manufacturability, and resolution of interferences\nBuild relationships that will facilitate knowledge transfer, cross functional knowledge of related work groups, and ability to present work products effectively\nEnsure MDE design and drawing deliverables are clear and understood by our customers, the Port Manatee facility, and other manufacturing sites\nEnsure that drawings are created and checked in accordance with established Honeywell drafting practices, with an emphasis on design for safety\nReview customer/EPC specifications, industrial standards, and regulatory requirements to align scope of supply during project bid phase\nFunction as the lead Structural Designer on projects from conceptual phase through project execution\nParticipate in model review meetings within LNG team and with EPCs/Customers (e.g., 30%, 60% & 90%) to ensure compliance with engineering requirements, customer specifications, and established fabrication methods\nParticipate in plant visits occasionally and international field repair trips, as assigned\nTravel: up to 20% US/International\n\n

MUST HAVE

\n\n3+ years of meaningful structural design experience \nBachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the
sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics\nMust be proficient in drafting and design with CAD and 3D modeling tools\nProficiency in AISC Steel Construction Manual, ASTM standards, AWS welding standards, and other international standards\n\n

WE VALUE

\n\nAssociate's Degree in Mechanical Design Technology/Drafting\nExcellent working knowledge of Hexagon’s Smart 3D plant design application is preferred\nExperience with other CAD applications such as such SolidWorks or MicroStation or Revit, or Navisworks or Hexagon’s CADWorx is a plus\nAdvanced technical knowledge in design and drafting standards and practices across multiple engineering disciplines will be advantageous\nAbility to read and interpret Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) is a plus\nExperience with Microsoft Office Tools\nAbility to interface with engineering and design team members\nCollaborative individuals capable of working productively in a self-directed manner with minimal supervision\nStrong organizational, communication, time management, and interpersonal skills\nHighly motivated and able to work independently and efficiently in a dynamic environment with competing priorities\nOpen to continuous improvement with a passion for continuous development and learning\nExcellent collaborator, organizational, leadership qualities and written/verbal communication, analytical/critical thinking skills\nProactively seeks information from others\nIndependent and creative thinker and decision maker\nAbility to develop a high level of confidence in proposing value added solutions\n\n
