Verifies and makes corrections and additions to structural details + Calculates estimated quantities of materials required for contract bidding, construction, and project costs + Communicate with designers to ensure structural drawings comply with engineering computations + Recommends minor adjustments in design to achieve simplicity and constructability + Utilizes trigonometry, algebra, and geometry to calculate reinforcing steel lengths and laps, girder piece lengths, cross-frame lengths, gusset plate dimensions, etc. + Participates in the review of drafting standards + Participates in technician meetings to review detailing standards Qualifications KNOWLEDGE: + Knowledge of drafting principles, practices, standards, and office policies that relate to structural detailing + Understanding of the practical applications of algebra, trigonometry, and geometry + Skilled in the use of computer-aided design and drafting software (Microstation and AutoCAD), word processing (Word or WordPerfect), and spreadsheet (Excel or Quattro Pro) computer applications + Ability to produce clean, legible, and organized work + Ability to give attention to details and work under pressure + Ability to work well with others MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Associate's Degree (typically in Physical Science) Experience: 0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Transportation) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Design Assistant OR Education & Experience Substitution: 2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Transportation) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Design Assistant Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None Necessary Special Requirements PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: + This position takes place in an average work environment.
