Structural Engineer
Aplin has partnered with our client, an Alberta-based consulting engineering firm that provides municipal and private industry engineering services for water, wastewater, and reuse water infrastructure to recruit a Structural Engineer responsible for various structural aspects of assessment and design associated with water and wastewater infrastructure. This position requires you to prepare studies, pre-designs, and detailed designs and complete engineering services during construction. In this position, you will work side by side a multi-discipline engineering team to troubleshoot problems and help find efficient and effective solutions for our clients.

This position requires experience in the structural design of water and wastewater infrastructure, and support of a multi-discipline project team. In addition to design duties, as a Professional Engineer you will also have an active role responsible for assisting with and overseeing the work of junior engineers.
 
Responsibilities:Establish report/study outlines that meet the project deliverable requirementsCollection and analysis of necessary background dataAssess structural aspects of existing water/wastewater systemsDevelop options to address project objectivesEstimate costs for options to address project objectivesOversee the work of junior and/or technical staff when applicable to projects/assignmentsDesign structural components of water and wastewater systems including but not limited to concrete water retaining structures, slabs-on-grade, structural slabs, concrete piles, masonry block wall buildings, etc.Develop front-end contract specifications for procurementReview, understand and interpret construction Contract Documents, Drawings, and SpecificationsAssist project managers/engineers with the bid/tender process for construction projectsAssist with construction management activities, such as reviewing budgets, schedules, shop drawings, request for information enquiries, contractor progress claims, material performance test reports, etc.Conduct engineering site visits / field reviews, to review if construction work generally conforms to the project drawings and specificationsAssist with the commissioning of water/wastewater infrastructureQualifications:Must hold a valid Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Engineering. Degrees in Civil EngineeringMinimum 4 years’ experience in consulting engineering, specifically in structural engineering area of practice.Must be in good standing with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
