Job Title: Structural Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a talented and motivated Structural Engineer to join our team. You will be responsible for designing steel decking according to Steel Deck Institute standards, as well as providing engineering direction to various departments. Your role will be crucial in ensuring the integrity and safety of our designs for a range of projects including retail buildings, schools, and warehouses.

ResponsibilitiesDesign steel decking according to Steel Deck Institute standardsReview and develop engineering tools specific to steel deckCreate roof and floor designs for various projectsProvide engineering direction to detailing, design, sales, and production departmentsInterpret contract documents and communicate with Architects, Engineers of Record, and Fabricators on product design requirementsDesign Joists and Joist Girders per Steel Joist Institute standardsBecome conversant in AISC, SJI, and SDI codes and specificationsCollaborate with the detailing team and focus on steel deck designPerform engineering reviews prior to designs being sent to the detailing teamAssist with detailers' questions and review drawings and RFIs from DesignersProvide guidance to Designers on any specific changes requiring additional reviewDesign drawings for complex or unique jobsSize and calculate for concrete 'pour stops' around buildingsAdjust field modifications or address damaged parts, focusing on load calculations and measurementsHelp manage the company's spreadsheet for load calculations used for complex or specific loading for joists and deckingEssential SkillsB.S. in Civil Engineering or equivalent for Civil P.E. qualificationMinimum Civil E.I.T. certification with a desire to become Civil P.E.Interest in structural steel design, specifically steel deck designGood verbal and written communication skillsAdditional Skills & QualificationsPrior steel deck industry or structural steel design experiencePrior steel joist industry experienceCivil P.E. certificationWork Environment

Our work environment is casual, with a focus on meeting deadlines. You will have your own cubicle and be part of a team that values flexibility and customer satisfaction. Our office is located in downtown Fort Wayne, offering a great open office with natural light and proximity to food and recreation options. The engineering team consists of over 15 members and is growing. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.85 - $31.25
