Your OpportunityWe are seeking Intermediate Structural Engineers to work exclusively on a high security nuclear energy program in Atlantic Canada.
In this role you will support our culture of external client service, build your technical strength in understanding and anticipating client needs, execute strategies to advance the Client’s project program objectives, manage risk, establish priorities, and resolve emergent problems.
Working directly with the Client on this program, you will have the opportunity to lead and contribute to the design for small to large scale projects. The primary work location is Client-owned industrial work site near Saint John, New Brunswick (with frequent requirements to work on site). This is a position permanent full-time for the duration of this project.
Individuals will be required to work in an office setting and perform site walkdowns in a noisy environment with occasional requirements to work at heights.
Successful candidates will be trained on and required to adhere to the Client’s site safety, clearance requirements, and quality assurance program.
Successful candidates must be able to obtain Site Access Security Clearance (Level 1) through Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and meet the requirements of the Code of Federal Regulations Hi10 CFR 810 Appendix A.
Your Key Responsibilities Evaluate, select, specify, and engineer all structural systems and components relating to various structural systems. Develop designs through sketches, hand calculations, structural analysis software models, and other visual formats. Prepare and review documentation in various structural phases including site plans, general equipment arrangements, conceptual and detailed structural developments, detailed component design, and construction level assembly information. Check designs prepared by team members. Coordinate with other disciplines (architectural, mechanical, electrical, civil, etc.) and key Client project stakeholders to ensure compatibility with the design intent. Review of shop drawings and submittals, respond to requests for information, prepare site observation reports, and perform other contract administration tasks. Prepare and coordinate project specifications including construction documents. Attend project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or clients. Perform calculations using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software. Perform on-site design services and field support. Development of design plans and schedules, including working closely with project managers. Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects. Comply with the Client and Stantec's EH&S program, with a focus on safety in the field. Your Capabilities and Credentials Self-starter, skilled in navigating engineering design concerns and developing project scope documents, technical requirements, reports, and quality reviews. Registered P. Eng. with APEGNB or eligible to apply for P.Eng. licensure with minimum of 5-10 years of related work experience. Strong communication, coordination, and time management skills. Self-starter with ability to work independently. Ability to apply practical knowledge and make sound judgement to analyze issues, interpret information and select methods and solutions to resolve design problems within stand practice guidelines. Requisite knowledge and application of structural design codes (NBCC, CSA, ASCE, AISC, ACI, etc.). Strong knowledge of structural systems means and methods, materials, and industry standards. Experience with heavy industrial structures is highly valued. This includes structural steel design and reinforced concrete design, for both substructures and superstructures. Understand all phases of engineering document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications. Recognize when technical problems are developing and initiate appropriate corrective actions. Ability to check own work for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule. Participate in project team setting and engage in creative and critical thinking. Field experience is an asset. Enthusiastic to expand structural engineering knowledge and keen to work in a team environment. Knowledge of and ability to use industry standard structural analysis software suites (STAAD.Pro, SAFI, SAP 2000, etc.), Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD. Knowledge of mathematical computational tools such as MathCad and the ability to perform detailed structural calculations within this environment. Good presentation, written and verbal communication skills. Education and Experience Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with focus on Structural Engineering. Minimum of 5 years of experience working on engineering design projects.
