AECOM is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join our highly collaborative and motivated staff in our Arlington, VA office’s Building Engineering practice. The Structural Engineer will perform the following duties:
This person will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
Lead the preparation of deliverables and products such as presentation materials, calculations, drawings, specifications, reports, and cost estimates related to structural systems including structural steel, reinforced concrete, post-tensioned concrete, masonry, wood, and timber for commercial and governmental facilitiesDeliver complete, accurate, and coordinated project design assignments within time and budget parameters while satisfying client contractual obligationsExplore creative approaches to address and solve design challengesPerform field investigation for incorporation of existing conditions into construction documentsPerform construction administration duties, such as shop drawing review, RFI responses, construction inspections, and responding to client requestsWork within a project team environment, coordinate work with other project disciplines, participate in interdisciplinary review of project deliverablesManage multiple projects on a daily basisMaintain and organize all project-related documentation, plan and organize work by developing work plansWork independently and make technical decisions based on building code interpretation as well as company, client, and industry-standard practicesAssist department in developing standards and maintaining current code and practice knowledgePerform quality assurance/quality control checking of structural design documents developed by fellow engineers including design calculations and drawingsMentor less experienced structural engineers and support career growthSenior technical resource may serve as technical advisor for the teamDevelops study and design procedures to facilitate high-quality cost-effective work by othersProvides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements and develop proposalsAECOM’s Buildings + Places practice includes architecture, interiors, building engineering, workplace strategy, business transformation, asset advisory, economics and development planning, master planning, urban planning, and landscape architecture. With a range of expertise from strategy and design through project realization, we create better outcomes to grow economies, protect natural systems, conserve natural resources, make societies more equitable, and connect and engage people through innovative, sustainable design solutions. Our teams have worked on signature projects such as the London 2012 Olympic Park and Legacy Framework, to the new plan for the LA2028 Olympics, to industrial facilities for GE and Rolls-Royce, to headquarters and workplaces for NASA, Unilever, Sony Music, DirecTV, Box, Inc., and many Fortune 500 companies.
QualificationsMinimum Requirements
BS in Structural, Civil, or Architectural Engineering with a Structural emphasis and six (6) of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or educationValid Civil/Structural Professional Engineer (P.E.) license recognized by a state licensing boardDue to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is requiredProfessional experience in the use of structural analysis software for designing whole structural building systems such as RAM Structural Systems, ETABS, SAP2000, Safe, etc.Experience using Revit in a professional setting is requiredPreferred Requirements
Eight (8) or more years of experience with an engineering firm designing structural systems for commercial, institutional, and government facilitiesMaster’s degree in structural engineering or civil engineering with a structural emphasisHas a security clearance or able to obtain oneThe ability to work with, interpret, and apply national and local building codesProficient in the use of computers for making engineering calculations, spreadsheets, and report writingStrong written communication, presentation, and client interface skillsAbility to take responsibility for given tasks with limited supervision while proactively developing standard practices and new techniquesAdditional InformationSponsorship is not available for this positionRelocation is not available for this position
