Kumba Iron Ore
We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.
Job DescriptionAs Structural Engineer you will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
Performance and DeliveryStructural Engineering Processes Management:Manage and govern all structural engineering processes safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively to meet short-term and long-term production objectives.Develop and test new growth ideas, including technology, for viability in preparation for and to be taken through the various project phases to ensure project success.Implement and contribute to continuous improvement and asset optimisation initiatives and projects to ensure the implementation of best-practice engineering processes.Design and Compliance Assurance:Prepare, review, coordinate, check and approve calculations, drawings, and specifications to achieve and maintain Kumba’s operational and project objectives.Ensure adherence to structural design standards and specifications throughout project assignments.Provide compliance assurance, auditing, and inspection services to the operations.Provide technical input into structural design issues and liaise with the Mechanical Department on plant designs.Ensure all design standards are adhered to and maintained on all projects.Contractor and Customer Relationship Management:Manage Structural consultants and contractors as part of the team to ensure zero harm to workers and minimal property damage.Ensure that customer relations are maintained and enhanced to contribute to overall project success.Ensure all contracts are in place to monitor contractor performance and compare to agreed-upon requirements.Reporting and Budget:Creating automated reports where appropriate to track and monitor results and quantify benefits associated with specific strategic initiatives.Contribute to the development of the Departmental budget.Manage the section's expenditure within the approved budget to ensure effective cost control and savings.Identify any opportunities for improved cost management, and either address these or raise them with your manager.This role is in the Engineering & Maintenance HME/Plant (ENG) at a Band 6 level reporting to the Discipline Civil Engineer.
QualificationsGrade 12Relevant Engineering Diploma / Equivalent on NQF6Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer or TechnologistRelevant Engineering Degree / Equivalent (Recommended)SA Drivers Licence Code BExperience
Demonstrate knowledge of structural engineering principles and practices with 3-5 years of experience in a relevant field.Understand the business aspects related to structural engineering projects.Display knowledge of structural engineering maintenance best practices.Exhibit knowledge of providing design input into projects within an EPCM (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Management) environment.Demonstrate an understanding of the mine planning cycle relevant to structural engineering projects.Show familiarity with basic financial metrics and budgeting tools relevant to structural engineering projects.Display knowledge of risk management techniques and critical controls in structural engineering projects.Possess knowledge of safety, health, and environmental legislative, statutory, and regulatory requirements related to structural engineering projects.Additional InformationWhat we offer
