Position Purpose:
The Structural Mechanic Trainee is an entry-level position designed for individuals seeking to develop their skills in the aircraft manufacturing and service industry. Under direct supervision, the trainee will learn the essential processes related to structural assembly operations, including fitting, drilling, riveting, and part assembly, using basic mechanic hand tools. The position provides hands-on training in a team environment, enabling the individual to grow their technical expertise and progress within the field.
Training and Skill Development:
Fitting and Assembly:
Under specific guidance, assist with the fitting of detail parts, ensuring proper alignment and placement for riveting and assembly.
Learn to use basic mechanic hand tools such as pneumatic drills, rivet guns, counter sinks, reamers, and files to perform basic drilling, riveting, and other assembly operations.
Quality Control:
Work under the supervision of assigned manufacturing employees and Quality Control Inspectors to ensure that all parts and work content meet the required specifications and quality standards.
Blueprint and Work Order Reading:
Learn to read and interpret work orders, blueprints, and specification sheets to understand the sequence of operations and work requirements.
Begin to understand the essential details of the assembly process, including identifying necessary materials and assembly steps.
Part Alignment and Assembly:
Assist in aligning and assembling parts to be riveted using holding fixtures, pins, clamps, and fasteners.
Learn how to properly secure parts during the assembly process to ensure structural integrity.
Hands-On Learning:
Observe experienced technicians and assist with various tasks to become familiar with parts, assemblies, and processes.
Gain practical experience, working with decreasing supervision as skills and knowledge increase over time.
Safety and Compliance:
Safety and Housekeeping:
Demonstrate good housekeeping practices by keeping the workspace clean, organized, and free of hazards.
Adhere to all safety protocols, using personal protective equipment (PPE) and following safe work practices at all times.
Proper Tool Use and Maintenance:
Learn proper tool handling and maintenance techniques to ensure tools are in good working order and used safely.
Physical and Technical Requirements:
Basic Math and Measurements:
Learn to read and use a scale to perform basic measurements.
Perform simple shop math calculations as needed to ensure precision in fitting and assembly operations.
Personal Skills:
Demonstrate an aptitude for hands-on craftwork, attention to detail, and a professional attitude.
Exhibit good interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team environment, meeting deadlines and contributing to project success.
Physical Capabilities:
Be able to lift and transport objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
Perform tasks that may require standing, bending, or reaching for extended periods.
Other Responsibilities:
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager to support the smooth operation of the manufacturing process and team.
As skills develop, take on more complex tasks with greater independence.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required.
Enrollment in a Technical Aviation program is preferred but not required.
Experience:
This is an entry-level position; prior experience in aircraft assembly or structural mechanics is not required but would be a plus.
A strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to work with hand tools are essential.
Skills and Abilities:
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Strong listening skills and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Basic computer literacy and proficiency in personal computer-based software.
Basic knowledge of shop math and measurement tools.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry objects up to 40 pounds.
Ability to work in various positions (standing, bending, etc.) for extended periods.
Work Environment:
Ability to work in a manufacturing or shop environment, including exposure to noise, fumes, and machinery.
Availability to work any shift, including weekends, depending on the needs of the operation.
Other Skills:
Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in performing tasks.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
Strong work ethic, professionalism, and willingness to learn.
Pay Details: $19.29 per hour
