Student, Radiology Technologist

This position is ECB status – requires a minimum number of worked hours per month as needed by the department; limited benefit offerings.

Job Summary: The Student, Radiology Technologist operates radiologic equipment, positions patient, adjust devices, explains procedures, adjust controls to set exposure factors, practices radiation protection techniques, and processes images for viewing. This role also operates mobile x-ray and fluoroscopy equipment.

Minimum Education: Must be enrolled in an accredited Radiologic Technology program and have completed 15 of the mandatory clinical competences required by the American Registry of Radiology Technology.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association.

Work Experience: None.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Working knowledge of radiation producing machines. Proven knowledge of CR/Film-Screen exposure techniques and protocols. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Positions patient and adjusts immobilization devices to obtain optimum views of specified area of body requested by physician. Explains procedures to patients which allows for understanding, cooperation, and decreases possible uneasiness. Practices radiation protection techniques by using beam restrictive devices and patient shielding skills to minimize radiation to the patient, staff, and others. Obtains acceptable radiographic images using appropriate Computed Radiology and/or Film/Screen techniques according to established Quality Control Standards. Acquires and dissimulates patient information data for exam order using the electronic medical record system.
 

Decision Making: Independent judgment in making minor decisions where alternatives are limited and standard policies/protocols have been established.

Working Relationships: Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal customers and/or external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
