Student Affairs Advisor

Supports retention and completion efforts through advising and supporting students with any academic, attendance or personal issues.  Has extensive technical knowledge of each area of Student Services to provide back up support as needed. 

Responsibilities Monitors grades and attendance to ensure that students are maintaining satisfactory progress, and academically advises students who fail for either academic or attendance reasonsCompletes paperwork for student withdrawals, leaves of absences, double coursing, etc.Acts as a backup for each office under the Student Services Department.Partners with Education Department to address student issues i.e. discipline, academic, personal, etc.Partners with parents/guardians to support students’ success.Maintains lists and partnerships with community resources.Assists with the preparation of accommodation plans following UTI’s ADA/504 policy (as assigned).Assists with the Veteran’s Benefits process (as assigned).Assists with the Student VISA process and updating SEVIS appropriately (as assigned).Assists and hires peer tutors for campus tutoring program (Note: applies to some, not all campuses).Assists with various programs on campus i.e. Student Council, student activities, tutoring program, drug testing program, assisting with Open Houses etc. (Programs vary by campus)Develops course schedules, works collaboratively with Education to maximize densities, communicates scheduling challenges to administration, strategically identifies concerns and proactively creates plans to address challenges, and advises students on scheduling options (as assigned)Processes student changes to student enrollment status and program (as assigned).Thoroughly audits all new student files, completes file checklists, verifies graduation documentation (secondary) to ensure students meet UTI Admissions criteria, ensures all state-required documents are on obtained and on file, executes enrollment agreements.Liaison with preferred housing vendor, ensures students housing needs are met, ensure housing status codes are updated, mediates roommate conflicts, supports all housing functions as needed (as assigned)Other duties as assigned. Qualifications

Education / Experience

4 yr degree in related field preferred but not required.2-3 years of experience in education field preferred but not required

Skills

Ability to advise and guide adult students in academic and life-skill mattersComputer skills required (i.e., Word, Excel)Excellent customer service, communication and organizational skillsAbility to multi-task in a fast paced environment with tight deadlinesPositive attitude and willingness to learn

 

Abilities

Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 5 pounds 5% or less of the workdayMust be able stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 5% or less of the workdayMust be able to talk, see, hear, concentrate, think, learn and reason for all of the workdayMust be able to sit and walk or otherwise move around for prolonged periods throughout the workday.Must be able to use a keyboard and do manual tasks for prolonged periods throughout the workday.Available flexible hours and some Saturdays
