Position Availability: Position Title: Student Assistant Specialist, Office of the Provost Requisition Number: 0406073569 Location New York City Position Type: Student Department: Provost/Provost's Office Responsibilities: The Office of the Provost seeks a creative, responsible, detail-oriented individual to support community making events. Edisa Weeks is a Scholar-In Residence as part of The Moment is Now: In Dialogue with Changemakers in 2025. Her important and impactful scholarship and artistic work is characterized by a deep commitment to social justice and community engagement. As part of the residency, she will be making roots and hosting Roots Parties with The New School community. The position begins in January 2025, with the potential to continue through December 2025. 
What is a root?Edisa is in the process of making 1,865 roots out of paper and twine for the performance installation, 3 RITES: Liberty. 1865 represents the last year of legalized chattel slavery in America. The roots range in length from eight to thirty feet. For the installation the roots dangle from the ceiling to the floor, creating a maze that the audience walks through to eventually meet the Liberty character. 
What is a Roots Party?Edisa is hosting Roots Parties, which are a making and conversation space, where people are invited to enjoy a meal; join in the journey of making 1,865 roots out of paper and twine; and participate in a discussion connected to liberty in America. Discussions have covered legalizing marijuana, prison abolition, food deserts, watershed rights, and more. RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with making roots out of paper and twine. Assist with making leaves out of paper and wire for Roots Party events. Support with setting-up and deconstructing Roots Party events. Assist with teaching people how to make roots during a Roots Party event. Additional project based tasks as needed

HOURLY RATE$20 per hour Minimum Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications include: Enjoy making crafts with your hands Available on Tuesday afternoons, 2pm – 7pm. Additional times (Wednesdays, Saturdays) will be scheduled in advance. Strong communication and organizational skills Ability to work collaboratively and independently Preferred Qualifications: PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
