UPMC McKeesport Hospital is searching for a Student Behavioral Associate work casual hours supporting our Behavioral Health Units! If you’re a current full-time student looking to gain experience in your field, this role is for you! Work occasional 8-hour shifts each week with start time options between 6:30am-10:30pm. You’ll be gaining exposure to behavioral and mental health patients while working on the front lines of Life Changing Medicine. 

The employee in the Student Behavioral Associate position assists in the provision of medical and psychiatric patient care. They’ll receive practical experience relevant to their formal education track and career goals.

Responsibilities:

Assists the nurse and other direct care staff in the provision of physical care and clinical intervention as assessed by client needs. Learns and utilizes up-to-date technology and practices in the delivery of patient care. Encourages patients to perform or assists them in the performance of activities of daily living. Documents in the medical record according to established policies. Takes initiative to ensure that unit environment is maintained. Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment. Manage crisis situations effectively using positive approaches. Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and other activities. Attend a minimum of 1 unit based of Institute wide in-service yearly. Maintains on-going communication with the treatment team and charge nurse regarding observations of patients? medical and behavioral symptoms and the care provided.
