As the first Rutgers-Newark special program established to identify talent beyond traditional measures and then recruit, retain and graduate talented young people from the greater Newark area, AFC remains a jewel in the crown of Rutgers- Newark, serving nearly 1500 undergraduate students annually. Posting Summary Rutgers University-Newark, an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking a Student Counselor II for the Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program (McNair Scholars Program), a federally funded TRIO program. Reporting to the McNair Project Director, this position aims to increase doctoral degree attainment by students from low-income, first generation, and underrepresented populations in higher education.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
Manages a student caseload focused on addressing academic success, research engagement, and graduate school aspirations of McNair participants Offers student support and graduate preparation modules Implements and monitors individual and group participation activities Follows caseload management procedures, makes appropriate contributions to student database systems, and supports programmatic initiatives for McNair students Contributes to the development of a comprehensive support delivery system that addresses academic and personal development needs of McNair students Provides technical knowledge and practical experience in helping students with successful graduate school admissions Develops and conducts group counseling modules, as well as, design, implement and monitor individual and group learning activities such as workshops, courses, and seminars Assists in the completion of the grant required annual performance report Performs other duties as assigned

The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System.
