Description of Key Responsibility:
+ Evaluates student documentation and determines eligibility for accommodations in compliance with Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 and institutional policies, understanding the needs of each student to determine appropriate support measures.
+ Conducts comprehensive intake process with new students and determines appropriate level of services (provisional, temporary, permanent), and provides individualized recommendations for academic support and access.
+ Oversees interactive process for students pursuing internships and/or field placements, to determine appropriate workplace accommodations to meet educational requirements.
+ Oversees the project management and implementation of accommodations related to student’s needs. This may include but is not limited to the acquisition of auxiliary aids and alternate instructional material formats, scheduling independently contracted interpreters, remote captioning services, document conversions, creation of accessible online content, and captioning services.
+ Manages communication and scheduling for contracted service providers, ensuring seamless coverage and securing substitutes as needed to maintain continuous accessibility support for students
+ Demonstrates a commitment to diversity and inclusive practices rooted in the social model of disability by advocating for changes that remove barriers, foster an inclusive campus culture, and empower students with disabilities to fully engage.
+ Maintains confidential, accurate and up-to-date records of student interactions, accommodations, determinations and services.
+ Oversees alternative text and document conversion processes, working with student workers and graduate assistants to ensure timely accessibility compliance.
+ Works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and external service providers and agencies to ensure accessibility in academic, housing, and campus environments.
+ Consults with Testing Services as needed regarding delivery of eligible testing accommodations.
+ Collaborates with and develops and delivers presentations to campus stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and students, about disability services and inclusive practices, in order to increase accessibility of the campus environment.
+ Provides guidance and troubleshooting for students, faculty and staff using assistive technology, including Text-to-Speech, Notetaking, and other accessibility software.
+ Assist with collecting, maintaining and analyzing data related to Student Disability Services.
+ Supports academic coaching and intervention efforts, working with students who need assistance with executive functioning, communication, and time management.
+ Serves as a liaison to faculty, addressing concerns and ensuring accommodations are implemented effectively while maintaining faculty engagement.
+ Conducts in-depth research on case law, ADA regulations, and other applicable disability laws to ensure fair, compliant, and well-informed accommodation determinations.
+ Manages and resolves grievances and appeals related to disability accommodations by ensuring a fair, thorough, and student-centered review process.
+ Navigates complex conversations with students, faculty, and staff with discretion and sensitivity, providing clear guidance on accommodations, legal requirements, and institutional policies while fostering a supportive and inclusive environment.
Education/Training:
Master’s degree in counseling, special education, or a closely related field is preferred. Bachelor’s Degree in related field with minimum 3 years professional experience will be considered.
Experience:
Two years of professional experience working with students with disabilities in an educational or comparable institutional setting. Experience reviewing and/or interpreting disability documentation (e.g. psychological assessments, special education records, audiology reports, etc.) for the purpose of determining reasonable accommodations.
Position Summary:
The Student Disability Services Coordinator provides direct service to students with disabilities at North Central College. This position coordinates accommodations for undergraduate and graduate students with verified disabilities in compliance with Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008. Student Disability Services Coordinator engages in an interactive process with each student on an individual, case-by-case basis to determine reasonable accommodations and to ensure that students with documented disabilities have access to college programs and services.
