Position Title: Student Event Assistant- (SLI-TE) Requisition Number: 0406073457 Location New York City Position Type: Student Department: Provost/Provost's Office Responsibilities: Reporting to the Assistant Director in the Office of Student Leadership, Involvement, and Transition Experiences (SLI-TE), Student Event Assistants will support the goals of the office and the division of Student Success within The New School. This position primarily focuses on the physical and logistical support of The Student Hub (Located at 39 W 13th Street, 2nd Floor) and Student-Led Events and Programs.

The Student Leadership, Involvement, and Transition Experience (SLI-TE) office at The New School supports the university’s educational mission by fostering opportunities for meaningful engagement and connections beyond the classroom. SLI encourages students to actively participate in the university community by joining or starting a student organization, engaging in recreational
activities, or attending events and programs organized by the Student Activities Board. The SLI office provides numerous opportunities to get involved on campus and enhance a student’s leadership potential.

RESPONSIBILITIES Assist and staff the in-person desk at the Student Hub Located at 39 W 13th Street. This includes but isn’t limited to: Triaging and supporting visitors to the Student Hub Assisting with answering telephones, emails, social media messages, filing correspondence, and supporting the administrative process for ticketing/registration for SLI events. Welcome and support the onboarding of new student employees. Serve as support staff and an ambassador for SLI during large-scale community events(i.e. Involvement Fairs, Block Party, Narwhal Spirit Week, Homecoming) Participate in recurring student staff meetings and retreats. Provide a high level of customer service when interacting with students, staff, faculty, community partners, or the general public. Maintain a confidential work environment.

When available, be on-site during student-led events and programs to provide additional event management support and troubleshooting assistance. Examples include supporting check-in, equipment procurement/pick up/ drop-off, decorating and arrangement of spaces, and pre-and post-event communication, evaluation, and support. Ensure Student-Led events and programs are provided additional logistical support for their recurring and major events across the academic year. Assist in the marketing plan, communication, and promotion of Student-Led programs through the Narwhal Nation platform and platforms (Including but not limited to Discord, Instagram, Twitter, WhatsApp, Gchat, Email, Narwhal Nation) Participate in, uplift, & promote Student-Led events (Ex: Student Activities Board, Registered Student Organizations, University Student Senate, Independent Student-Led Initiatives and Groups). Seek out and connect together separate student-led events and programs together to provide pathways for collaboration and solidarity building. Maintain, organize, inventory, and catalog the Equipment Library and Storage Spaces of the Office of Student Leadership and Involvement across Fanton Hall and the University Center. Identify commonly used equipment and materials, and provide recommendations for procurement and investment for future equipment and materials. Research and analyze campus-wide resources for student use for communication to student-led initiatives. Photography: If applicable, provide documentation and photography support at campus events and programs.
Additional Responsibilities: Meet the Assistant Director of Student Leadership and Involvement to check on developmental goals and positional benchmarks. The Student Event Assistant will also cross-train and work collaboratively across SLI Student workers and volunteers.
WORK MODE
Hybrid/Split – Employees hired for this position have regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus (ex 1-4x/week) and also work some of the time remotely.

SALARY RANGE
$16-$19/hr

Preferred Qualifications: Ability to creatively problem solve, multi-task, and function in a collaborative work environment. Capacity to provide and receive constructive critique. This position in the context of Equipment Management and Organization frequently needs to traverse multiple levels of stairs and ladders, position oneself into various levels for reaching items, and moves boxes weighing up to 20 pounds across offices, campus locations, and storage spaces for various needs.
