This position will be part of the Minnesota Geospatial Information Office (MnGeo), which coordinates geographic information systems within the state, creating connections between state agencies and other stakeholders from public and private organizations. Join the Minnesota Geospatial Information Office (MnGeo) as a Student GIS Technician and gain hands-on experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) while contributing to impactful state projects. In this role, you will assist MnGeo staff with key GIS initiatives, including: 1. Building and maintaining geospatial data frameworks to support state agency enterprise data needs, such as aggregating local data on boundaries, ownership, transportation, and addresses. 2. Reviewing, creating, and enhancing processes, data, and metadata for the Minnesota Geospatial Commons. 3. Supporting automation and web development tasks in GIS-related projects. 4. Contributing to various other GIS projects, as needed. (https://mn.gov/mnit/about-mnit/careers/hiringprocess.jsp) **:** **Education:** Student Worker Eligibility - To be eligible for appointment as a Student Worker Paraprofessional Senior you must be enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate educational program or plan to enroll within three months. Students may be "off" for the summer or for one semester/quarter and remain employed as a student worker, but such absences cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year. If you are enrolled at a credit-granting institution you must carry at least six semester/nine quarter credits. If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, you must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter. Any lesser credit (class) load will be treated as a semester/quarter off. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or making progress on a dissertation. You will be asked to complete an Educational Verification form prior to appointment. + Currently enrolled in an accredited college program as a junior, senior, or graduate student. + Academic programs can include GIS, Computer Science, Geography, Landscape Architecture, Natural Resource Management or Forestry, Urban / Regional Planning, or Management Information Systems with some coursework that emphasizes GIS technologies (Introduction to GIS, Advanced GIS, Remote Sensing, Spatial Analysis, and Introduction to Cartography). **Experience:** + Experience with MS Office Excel and Word (Office 365 preferred). + Experience or class work with desktop GIS software, such as ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro, or QGIS. + Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties. + Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving. **Preferred Qualifications** + Experience with configuring GIS web applications, such as ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Hub, ArcGIS Survey 123, Esri Web App Builder. + Experience with ArcGIS Pro or ArcGIS that includes creating, editing, and maintaining personal or file-based geodatabases, configuring and editing feature classes, using toolbars and tools, and performing GIS analysis. + Experience in web development using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. + Experience scripting with Python (version 2.5 or greater) to work with databases, especially spatial data. + Experience working with geospatial data and metadata. + Experience with remote sensing data and techniques, such as lidar. + Knowledge of database design methods and modeling techniques. + Familiarity with code versioning systems. **Additional Requirements** It is the policy of Minnesota IT Services that a successful candidate must pass all legally required checks prior to employment which may consist of the following: + SEMA4 Records Check (applies to current and past state employees only) + Criminal History Check + Reference Check + Social Security and Address Verification + Education Verification + Other legally required checks **Minnesota IT Services does not participate in E-Verify.
