Your Role
As a Spring Climate Action Intern in Gensler’s New York office, you will join our Climate Action & Sustainability team for a part-time, paid internship (in-person) opportunity. You will work with the Climate Action and Sustainability team to support sustainable consulting services and climate action strategies on projects. The project work, ranging from certification, strategy, and analytics, helps organizations and communities achieve carbon targets and sustainability goals.
What You Will Do
You will work primarily in support of Gensler’s efforts to specify greener materials on our projects by working with teams and clients to identify, research, and understand the various aspects of sustainable product selection. Research will cover a broad range of sustainable product attributes including material health and transparency, lifecycle impacts, indoor air impacts, and product circularity. Additionally, you may participate in consulting engagements that provide sustainability strategies for a wide range of world class clients and projects ranging from commercial interiors to ground up buildings and real estate portfolios.
Work with clients and design teams to understand sustainable material selection goals, employing feasibility analysis or other methods to establish targets beyond Gensler’s established commitments.Participate in work sessions with clients and design teams to facilitate greater understanding of product selection impacts and opportunities.Participate in the coordination with project design and consultant teams to provide sustainable product selection guidance and technical support, participating in client meetings when necessaryIdentify and maintain awareness of current and emerging technologies, tools, and methods as they impact the delivery of green building design Research Federal, State, and local regulations and incentives and provide guidance to clients Ensure sustainable design projects status are integrated into Gensler Digital LibraryYour Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a degree in sustainable building, architecture, engineering, interiors or related fieldYou are in your last year of graduate school (This internship is not a full-time position for upcoming/recent graduates)Knowledge of and interest in healthy and sustainable building material attributes and certifications.Knowledge of embodied carbon research, lifecycle assessment processes, and environmental product declaration dataKnowledge of material health concernsFamiliarity with third-party ingredient disclosures and hazard screenings.Significant interest in and aptitude for sustainable design, certifications, and learning about project management, and client relationshipsKnowledge of building systems, sustainable materials, and consultant coordinationAbility to perform technical analysis is a plus (e.g. energy and daylighting simulation, specification writing, materials selection, cost and life cycle studies, etc.)MUST have experience in a similar roleResourceful, self-motivated, enthusiastic team playerA sense of humor and a knack for innovation and problem solving, and a collaborative, solutions-oriented working styleTechnical Skills
