Student Med Tech | Lab School
Overview Under the direction of the Education Coordinator, faculty, and the Program Director of the School of Medical Laboratory Science, the student learns to perform laboratory testing and analysis at a minimum of MLS entry level proficiency. The student performs tests within acceptable QC/QA confidence levels in a timely fashion; learns to operate, maintain and troubleshoot laboratory analyzers and equipment; collects, handles, and processes laboratory specimens; notifies Education Coordinator, Laboratory Supervisor or faculty instructor of variations in policy; correlates test results with normal and possible pathological conditions; maintains a minimum of a 76% average on all assessments and course grades; observes Standard Precautions and all safety policies and procedures; provides excellent customer service. Qualifications Required Education: GED or High School Diploma. Specific course work: To complete the prerequisite college credit in coursework identified in the admission requirements for the program. Preferred Education: N/A Required Licensure/Certifications: Florida Clinical Laboratory Training License in Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Serology, and Blood Bank (Immunohematology) required within 90 days from date of hire or transfer. Preferred Licensure/Certifications: N/A Required Experience: Less than one year Preferred Experience: N/A Necessary Skills: 1. Ability to communicate orally and in writing in a professional manner with patients, visitors, and hospital employees. 2. Ability to prioritize tasks and organize work flow. 3. Requires excellent decision making and problem solving skills. 4. Must be detail oriented. 5. Must be able to handle stressful situations in a professional manner.
