Nature of Work
Participates in providing recreational programs and activities to the public in safe, fun, healthy, and inviting environments.
Environmental Factors
Work is performed in a variety of locations at City recreation facilities involving exposure to various weather conditions, noise, debris, dust, hazardous chemicals, and other related obstacles and hazards.
Physical Factors
Moderate physical demands; some lifting and moving of supplies and equipment weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
Work Situation Factors
Position involves competing demands, performing multiple tasks, working afternoon, evening, and weekends, and responding to customer issues. Position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and City of Las Cruces policies.

This recruitment may be part-time, contract, non-exempt. Work hours will vary based on work assignment.
This position is graded CN03.
Duties and Responsibilities
+ Monitors and oversees activities, facilities, and events, assists participants, and enforces rules and safety standards to assure programs are delivered in a safe and effective manner and are in compliance with City policies and procedures.
+ Participates in the set up and take down of equipment and furnishings to prepare for activities and events; explains programs, rules, and procedures to participants and demonstrates proper use of equipment to promote safety.
+ Provides appropriate and timely assistance in person and on the phone; disburses relevant information and program information to patrons, visitors, employees, and the general public; refers inquiries to the appropriate staff so that expected levels of customer service can be maintained.
+ Maintains equipment and facilities in clean and safe condition in accordance with established procedures to promote safe and esthetically pleasing environments; tracks and maintains required paperwork and event calendars in various mediums to assure records are current and accurate; tracks inventory of supplies to ensure appropriate levels are maintained.
+ May provide outreach functions with schools, parents and general public to promote program activities and coordinate utilization of facilities.
+ Assists in the maintenance, repair and upkeep of Municipal grounds, buildings, facilities and athletic fields.
Minimum Qualifications
Currently enrolled in High School, at least sixteen (16) years of age, and either a junior or senior (11th or 12th grades) at the start of the fall school year with a minimum of a 2.0 grade point average (GPA). Proof of age, GPA, and enrollment status must be provided at time of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of: customer service principles, standards, and methods; effective communication and techniques for effectively interacting with customers, in person and on the telephone; relevant recreation equipment, appropriate use and maintenance; business and personal computers, and business office software applications.
Ability to:assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects and demands to meet critical deadlines and provide timely customer service; communicate effectively in verbal and written forms; establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers and the public; operate standard office equipment and timely and accurately enter data using a personal computer with basic and specialized software applications; present a positive image.
Skills in: effectively responding to questions from the public and employees; maintaining records and files in various mediums and formats; maintaining objectivity and freedom from prejudice, and exercising judgment and understanding in daily interactions with customers; promoting and enforcing safe work and recreation practices.
Seasonal/temporary positions are not eligible for City sponsored benefits.
