The position is a resource to both students and faculty in the areas of recruitment and retention; general advising; student complaints; student conduct; academic petitions; and internship/experiential learning administration. The position is designed to provide recommendations and innovative solutions to solve complex student issues. This position will also develop and maintain relationships with external partners which may contribute to student success, student recruitment and retention, and community engagement. **Responsibilities and Results** + Coordinate general academic advising activities and actively partner with faculty/staff in various departments, programs, and university units to support students and foster student success + Manage student conduct issues, student complaints, student petitions, and student appeals to advance the student experience; prepare and archive documents relative to the decision-making process and outcome + Develop, support, and assess initiatives designed to increase recruitment and retention for the College and its programs to support program and School growth/sustainability + Manage student internship/experiential learning processes and opportunities to enrich the student experience and ensure compliance of all regulations, requirements, and accreditation standards + Maintain and develop community partnerships for service-learning, internship, experiential learning, or other beneficial partnerships to provide students with relevant, professional development experience + Serve as a liaison/resource to the College and the University to ensure consistent and appropriate implementation of relevant policies, procedures, and practices + Other duties as assigned **Communications and Relationships** This position develops and maintains ongoing professional relationships with students and staff across the campus, staff on other campuses, and with external organizations/entities in an effort to manage unexpected and complex situations that may have a critical impact on the university. Specifically, the position works regularly with multiple functional areas to create integrative solutions including the college’s dean, faculty, staff, and students; Student Relations Directors from other colleges and schools within the university; staff from Records and Registration, Advising and Student Transitions, Provost’s Office, and Student Life and Development units. The position also cultivates and maintains relationships with other campuses within MN State and elsewhere to assist with transferring student support. This position establishes and maintains relationships with key staff at current and potential internship/experiential learning sites by coordinating, evaluating, and visiting internship/experiential learning sites. This position effectively and compassionately communicates with and provides guidance on relevant policies and processes affecting students. This position determines what should be communicated as well as how and when it should be communicated. This position regularly communicates relevant information that affects students to students, faculty, and staff within the college. This position communicates with students, departments, and associated student organizations about potential internships and experiential learning opportunities. This position communicates regularly with internship/experiential learning sites. **Planning and Assessment** This position recommends goals and objectives and creates an associated annual work plan related to student advising; managing student conduct and complaints; student recruitment and retention; and experiential learning/internship activities. This position designs and conducts assessments to understand the effectiveness of the work plan’s activities and then proposes ways to continuously improve. In partnership with the college’s department/program faculty, this position gathers data and information on workforce needs and proposes potential internship sites/experiential learning activities as well as works with the college’s faculty to establish an initial connection with the potential external entities. **Decision Making and Accountability** This position regularly works with complex, highly sensitive, and emotionally-charged student issues that require communicating with multiple persons across campus and involve interpreting policies, procedures, practices, and precedents. After consultation with key stakeholders, this position makes decisions on behalf of the School and the University that, very likely, impact various functional areas across the university and are of significance to the university. Specifically, this position provides guidance on, support for, and coordination of general advising; student transfers; and student issues regarding course registration, student conduct, student complaints and appeals, special needs, and academic petitions. This position also coordinates qualifying aspects of internships/experiential learning including background checks, fingerprint testing, and substance use assessments/testing. **Minimum Qualifications** + Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., College Counseling and Student Development, Higher Education, Student Affairs) + Minimum of one year of professional experience in advising, student affairs, and/or recruitment and retention + Demonstrated ability to engage in the best practices and procedures of student advising/counseling and higher education administration + Demonstrated skills in collaborating with multiple functional areas to advance student success + Demonstrated excellent interpersonal written and oral communication skills + Demonstrated skill in writing concise, accurate, and professional reports + Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills including data interpretation + Demonstrated skills in working with diverse student and employee populations + Valid U.S. Driver’s License **Preferred Qualification** + Knowledge of the theoretical principles of advising/counseling and higher education + Three or more years professional work experience at a state college or university in student counseling and/or higher education administration + Demonstrated ability to effectively create and deliver professional presentations for large and diverse groups + Demonstrated ability to work professionally with varied external organizations/entities **Other Requirements** Working conditions are typically a professional office environment.
