Job Title Student Success Center Peer Mentor (Work Study) General Description This is a student position responsible for providing mentorship to assigned students. Responsible for working with faculty, staff, and other students in order to provide support and guidance to mentees and to increase their campus connections. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Job Duties 1. Mentors assigned students by providing personalized support and guidance.
2. Meets with each mentee a minimum of once per week for one hour.
3. Increases mentees’ campus connections through involvement in campus organizations and familiarizing them with campus resources.
4. Assists students with their personal and academic goals, including but not limited to helping students improve study skills, time management, exploring the importance of campus and community involvement, personal decision making, and conflict resolution skills.
5. Ensures completion of mentor and mentee guided activities to assist in relationship development.
6. Compiles reports for the purpose of monitoring and evaluating program activities.
7. Attends bi-weekly team mentor meetings.
8. Attends all training sessions as necessary.
9. Remains committed to the program and maintains communication with program staff and assigned students.
10. Assists in mentee file and record maintenance.
11. May assist staff in routine clerical duties and responsibilities.
12. May assist with special events and projects as assigned.
13. Performs other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.

No direct experience is required. Training will be provided.

For this position, applicants must have a minimum of a 2.75 cumulative GPA and be in their second year or higher at SFA.

Preferred Qualifications As a Peer Mentor, you will assist other Lumberjacks in developing the necessary skills for academic and social success by providing guidance and support.Peer Mentors showcase a high level of integrity and commitment to the university and their academic endeavors. Physical Demands Special Conditions for Eligibility A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.
