Schedule Weekly Hours:
40Gundersen Medical Foundation’s Student Summer Research Fellowship will help each student develop an understanding of medical research in a community based clinical setting. They will utilize commonly used experimental designs for medical research studies, thereby gaining insight into disease processes and helping to improve patient outcomes.The Student Summer Research Fellowship will be from May 27, 2025 - August 8, 2025Qualifications:- Junior Standing in college by Spring 2025- Overall GPA of at least 3.2- Interest in pursuing an advanced degree or working in a medical fieldPlease submit with application:- unofficial transcript- 2 letters of recommendationJob Description:The Student Summer Research Fellow will develop an understanding of medical research in a community-based clinical setting through a 11-week summer internship. Students will utilize commonly used experimental designs for research studies and gain insight in disease processes, observation of diagnostic and treatment interventions.
Major Responsibilities:
1. In collaboration with a Principal Investigator (PI), research mentor, and biostatistician, the student will work on a research project, including but not limited to data collection through review of patient medical records, data entry, analysis, and potentially publication.
2. Students will utilize available resources, including but not limited to, the medical library, online resources, departmental guidelines and policies, and methods of scientific writing, to complete specific research project goals.
3. Students will present a 15-minute verbal PowerPoint presentation of their research project findings at a noon conference at the end of the summer internship.
4. Students will gain knowledge of medical departments through specific departmental training and shadowing experiences.
5. Adheres to regular and predictable attendance.
6. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Learning:
REQUIRED
High School Diploma or equivalency +
must be an undergraduate student who has completed at least their Junior year at the start of the internship (May/June) with a G.P.A. of at least 3.2; students planning to pursue an advanced degree in a health related field.
