Reporting to the Director, Studies, the Study Director is accountable for leading and directing early-stage studies, working in collaboration with, and on behalf of, Teck's business units to shape the project and advise sound commercial decisions. The successful candidate will perform their duties as a service provider within the company's Projects Group. This role involves significant interaction and collaboration with Teck's executive leadership team and close coordination with the social, environmental, and regulatory teams to support permitting requirements.
The role is responsible for project safety and delivering quality plans, schedules, estimates, and documentation per the company's project development framework (JV assignments will require navigation of joint systems where appropriate). The Study Director will be charged with leading a multi-disciplinary Owner team, EPCM services contractor, and specialist consultants to deliver the project scope. They provide specific expertise in project strategy and site management.
The position will be based in Vancouver and study assignments may include JV’s.
ResponsibilitiesBe a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
Responsible for the overall delivery of the project within scope, budget, and schedule aligned to the business case and the Teck values of safety and sustainability
Understand and cultivate the project's business case
Develop and maintain open and effective communications within the study team, internal Teck departments, JV leadership and external stakeholders
Qualifications20+ years of experience in mining-specific projects' early study phases, including mega projects (>$1Bn)
Strong engineering field experience with demonstrated ability to address significant environmental, Indigenous, land, legal, and hydrology issues that are non-standard and directly impact design
Experience within the Copper industry is a strong preference but not a must
Experience in all phases of projects, from concept through implementation, is preferred
Operating experience is an asset
Proven ability to partner with and bring together cross-functional groups to run early study phase results and build long-standing relationships successfully
Validated experience in project and stakeholder management for similar magnitude and complexity projects
Experience in maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, local communities and Joint Ventures
Knowledge of relevant legislation and permitting processes
Proven ability to complete projects on time, within scope, and budget
Collaborative and low-ego approach to leadership

Salary Range: $172,000 - $213,000
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
