Who we’re looking for  

 

Reporting to the Study Director, Caving the newly created position of Study Lead, Caving sits within Newmont’s Global Studies function.   

 

The primary purpose of this position is to provide strong leadership of the studies team overseeing the design of future block caves, ensuring alignment with project objectives.  The scope of this position will encompass comprehensive analysis and decision-making to support mine caving project execution and resource optimisation.  

 

To be considered suitable for this role, you will have significant industry relevant experience in large scale caving mine establishment, design and construction and depth of knowledge of related principles and values drivers; major operational hazard mitigation, fragmentation and flow, and geotechnical and hydrogeological design considerations, including production systems and ventilation.   

 

Your technical expertise will enable you to confidently lead a mine caving technical specialist team, and your collaborative style will drive inclusion and cohesive determination in achieving project deliverables safely and within project objectives.   

 

It is essential you have: 

 

•    Tertiary qualifications in Engineering and/or Mining related discipline (i.e. Geotechnical)
•    Extensive experience in cave establishment, strategic underground mine optimisation and planning techniques
•    Advanced skills in mine planning and cave scheduling tools (i.e. Deswik, PCBC, Leapfrog, Ventsim, etc)
•    Experience in delivering step change in mine design & planning processes, to reduce cost or de-risk the operation or business
•    Capable of undertaking novel, complex or critical professional work without guidance and to provide professional guidance and authoritative advice
•    Expert competency in Mine Economics, Mining Operating and Capital, Mining Reserve Estimation and Mine Infrastructure Engineering
•    Demonstrated mine caving technical multidisciplinary team leadership skills with knowledgeable understanding in day-to-day interactions.

 

This position will suit residents of Newmont’s Corporate hub capital cities, that include Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane, Denver and Vancouver.
