The intern will support efforts to review subject areas, identify opportunities for legislative and systemic policy changes, and enhance online resources for accessibility and impact. This role offers hands-on experience in policy development, stakeholder engagement, and implementation processes while fostering skills in research, organization, and communication. The ideal candidate is passionate about advancing equity and addressing health disparities. This internship offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting the development of innovative policies that address disparities and promote equity in behavioral health care across Minnesota. **Some responsibilities include but not limited to:** + Conduct research and analysis to identify opportunities for legislative and systemic policy changes that reduce disparities and improve outcomes for historically underserved populations. + Collaborate with team members to enhance online resources, ensuring accessibility and user-friendliness for both providers and individuals seeking services. + Gather and synthesize information from various teams to reflect the breadth of work being done across BHA. + Contribute to equity-centered policy solutions and stakeholder engagement initiatives aimed at addressing disparities in overdose rates and access to care. **Minimum Qualifications** To be eligible for an internship, you must meet the following requirements: You must be a student at an accredited educational institution; **or** recently graduated December 2024 or May 2025 **AND** + Excellent human relation and communication skills sufficient to represent the position and Division in a professional, efficient, and clear manner + Ability to work independently and in a team setting + Strong organizational and interpersonal skills + Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) + Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and contribute to a culture of inclusion **Preferred Qualifications** • Preferred majors include Psychology, Sociology, Policy related majors, Behavioral health sciences, etc. If there is interest in the topic, other majors not mentioned may also be valuable. • Exceptional organizational and multitasking abilities • Self-motivation, initiative, and creative problem-solving • Knowledge of substance use disorder care (preferred), public policy, and systemic inequities • Awareness of social determinants of health and their impact on disparities • Critical thinking, adaptability, and attention to detail • Strong relationship-building and engagement skills with diverse teams and partners • Commitment to equity and inclusion **Additional Requirements** • Must be in academic years of sophomore, junior, or senior (Graduate students allowed) • Must provide unofficial transcript to show proof of school enrollment • Must be willing to reside in Minnesota for the duration of internship • Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) criminal background check will be conducted on all finalists for this position.
