**Substation Automation Engineer/Analyst**
**_SCS Transmission SIA Department_**
_These positions can be located in either Birmingham, AL or Forest Park, GA_
**JOB SUMMARY**
The successful candidate will be responsible for building substation RTU configurations and remotely supporting field installations of Substation Integration and Automation (SIA) equipment for Southern Company's transmission and distribution systems. The candidate will provide technical expertise and support for design, construction, planning, marketing, and customers regarding SIA equipment. They will also be highly involved in the support of standardization efforts, testing of new SIA technologies, and other ancillary SIA infrastructure systems.
**JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**
+ Make Safety our number one priority using a “Safety First” mentality and leading by example.
+ Utilize SIA software tools to support the design & configuration of substation equipment.
+ Ensure schedule deadlines are met for all production work that is individually assigned.
+ Partner with SIA P&C Field Services along with control centers to ensure all customer needs/deliverables are met.
+ Support innovative solutions to automation/cyber security challenges as needed.
+ Assist SCS design with project scoping of SIA systems with CIP compliance and Cyber Informed Engineering in mind.
+ Perform QA preliminary review of P&C Design packages and SIA configurations.
**JOB QUALIFICATIONS**
**_Education:_**
+ BS Engineering Degree preferred (Electrical or Mechanical preferred) OR Associates degree with applicable experience.
+ Professional Engineers (P.E) license preferred.
**_Experience:_**
+ Relevant SIA/Protection and Controls Design/Protection and Controls Applications/Protection and Controls Field Services/Power Delivery SCADA Support experience is required.
+ Experience in transmission and/or distribution substation operations, power delivery, field services engineering, and/or substation control design engineering is a plus.
+ Experience with designing or commissioning of SIA systems is preferred.
+ Experience in interpreting standard relay logic/settings for SCADA applications preferred.
+ Knowledge of applicable NERC CIP standards and the impact/requirements on SIA standard designs is preferred.

+ Knowledge of SIA support systems (Config Studio, MyIED, SEL TEAM, PI, etc) a plus.
+ Knowledge of SCADA protocols and transport types (RS232 or TCP/IP based) a plus.
+ Knowledge of Southern Company P&C Standards is a plus.
+ Working knowledge of programming languages and frameworks such as C#, Visual Basic, PRISM, and .NET and experience with database applications (SQL Server, Oracle) is a plus.

**TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS**
+ This position can require some travel – approximately 25% per year.
+ This will include some overnight travel and will be primarily within the Southern Company operating territory (AL, GA, MS)

+ Relocation assistance may be available if the successful candidate does not currently live within a reasonable commute distance of either Atlanta or Birmingham.
