POWER Engineers, a member of WSP, is seeking a skilled Substation Electrical Engineer to support engineering activities for electrical substations. This position, classified as Electrical Engineer II or III, will collaborate with our substation design teams within the Power Delivery Substation Department in our Richmond, Virginia office. A hybrid or in-office work environment is preferred, a fully remote role may be considered for candidates with the right experience and proven ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

The Substation Electrical Engineer will share responsibility with the rest of the department to produce a product consistent with POWER’s mission statement and our culture. The Substation Electrical Engineer is expected to support the Department Manager/Area Lead (DM/AL) in achieving the goals of the department, maintain POWER’s high-quality standards, promote internal teamwork and meet the needs of our clients.  This position is also responsible assisting with developing, maintaining and strengthening client relationships within the region. 

Support AL/DM with the management of relationships with alliance clientsDevelop and manage project schedules, budgets, and quality of assigned projectsPerform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to extra high voltage substations including, but not limited toOne-line diagramsSchematicsWiring diagramsSCADACommunicationsStation physical layoutsSections/ElevationsCable and conduit plans and detailsGround grid design and detailsFoundation plans and detailsStructural plans and detailsControl enclosure design and detailsLightning protection plansYard lighting plansBills of MaterialsInter-discipline coordination activitiesSpecify and select substation equipmentContribute to substation equipment specificationsConstruction supportFacility studiesSite visitsPerform QA/QC for deliverables to clientsSupport Project Manager and Project Engineer with project reporting needsSupport proposal developmentSupport the mentorship and training of other team membersShall understand and adhere to client standards and processes while working individually or within a team to complete complex and technically challenging designsOccasional travelRequired Education/Experience                                                                         Ability to function as a Substation Electrical Engineer for the Richmond location of our Substation Business UnitBSEE (BS Electrical Engineering), BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) degree, or equivalent technical education3+ years of experience in substation designExperience in 15kV through 230kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standardsExperience filling the role of electrical engineer for several substation projects occurring concurrentlyExperience with Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Excel and WordDemonstrate the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, tracking and organizing many tasks of varying importance and sizeProven ability and desire to mentor and help othersStrong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnelLegally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorshipDesired Education/Experience5+ years of experience in substation designExperience in 230kV through 500kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standardsProfessional Engineering (PE) licenseExperience managing people on a project teamExperience with MicroStation (V8 or newer)
